brembo 18z brake upgrade project.

Did we not all say things like you'll regret it!

The thing is though was your set up the same calipers you have now but with rotors and bells?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
well yes it was, same calipers etc , better bolts , but proper rotors/bells etc....

Was it an ECS kit as I'm sure you can get the same bells and rotors over here. It may be a little more than what you wanted to spend but you know it will all fit together.

Is it Awesomegti or another I can't remember.

discs were 352mm x 30 though carl, in a way i'm almost there really if I can the discs issue sorted out, I suppose given the cost so far is less than half what the first kit cost me I cant really complaint too much, just dam annoying though bits don't fit as decribed....

It was an ECS kit carl, my friend who works over in Chicago on a contract can get me the kit whenever I need it but it will never be as cheap now, last time round it was shipped back in a container with all his furniture so it did work out well, if I did it again it would have to be shipped and all the costs etc involved , not such a viable deal carl.

I know what you mean pal and even though it's a good price for what you get deep down inside you knew it was too good to be true.

I think if you persevere with it you'll be happy once it's all done. Then if anyone else decides to do the same thing you can either warn them that's it's a bad idea or help them get it sorted out.

At the end of the day nothing seems to go right for you Rob whether it be wheels, brakes or anything else B7 related. But you've got to get some good luck sooner or later.

I do know I'd be asking for some form of refund to help out with costs that you may incur like getting the discs machined.....which in hind site maybe they could get done in the first place.

Thanks carl, I suppose all these problems are part and parcel of modding our cars , very few ever go smoothly no matter how well they are said to be made to fit, I should be used to it really as I spend so much time doing it to either car or bike .....maybe as I'm getting older I am getting less confident in tackling mods...I certainly loose my patients quicker with things if they don't work out than I used too...

like you say carl, i'll get there in the end ....

cheers

I still can't believe the kit was crap, mine came in good time, discs came modded for me and everything went straight on ??? I might email them too Rob and tell them i've bigged them up for nothing, you should stick with the brakes though Rob

I have emailed them tony, waiting on the follow now. maybe this is one of those occasions when things have gone wrong in a big way, they have sold a fair few for some time and most buyers seem to be happy , but like all things there is allways the chance that things will go wrong, just seems to be me, i'll see how thing get sorted tomorrow with them and go from there, see if things get corrected first.

Well things have improved this morning, seller is sorting out all my issues and upgrading my parts aswell so better pads and discs etc, it does appear to have been a genuine mistake their end and they have promised to sort the mess out to my satisfaction.
I suppose all things considered its a satisfactory conclusion as mistakes do happen , just too often for my liking, just need to get all it here and together now, today's turning out to be a better day ....

So then chaps , there's light at the end of the BBK tunnel now.....
Today received the replacement discs, the 2nd wear sensor and better pads, all looked to be right but measured it just in case, all is as it should be, made a quick call to a friend that runs his own small engineering firm to get the discs enlarged from 67mm to the required 68mm .
picked them up a late this afternoon and had a quick test fit , spot on , just need to sort out the fixing bolt hole that's keeps them located not that it is crucial but i'd rather the discs were on and located properly .
made up a template from the old disc so will be able to transfer the hole dimesions etc onto the new discs, pretty straight forward.
Anyway , so that's all the bits here now, the seller has gone out of his way to sort things out so that's good, going out into my workshop this evening to drill the locating holes and then I may be ready to try the second fix ...touch wood it will be better second time round..

i'll have you lot know I finish all my projects, maybe after a few change of plans etc..lol I used to be undecided, but now i'm just not sure...haha

Nah he's too much of a wimp to get them done in case something else goes wrong.

(Fingers crossed a little dig may get him to do them)

I get the feeling he could be doing them as we speak Carl, He seems far too excited just to be sitting there looking at them I reckon lol

nope I can honestly say I have been very busy working this morning carl, had to top a very large conifer in the back garden as it had split at the top, not ideal when very close to the house, and I mean large conifer carl , not a silly 20ft job.
Not a problem for a skilled person such as myself, so going to start the old bus shortly after I've finished putting the chain saw and gear away.

have a good one carl....

well they are on, don't look as big now either , maybe I need bigger ones..lol
Anyway 2 hours to fit them so not too bad , drilling the discs to reuse the small locating screw was the way to go for me, no faffing around trying to hold the disc in place whilst giggling things around.
Now the less than ideal news, the caliper bolts are not really long enough now, they are nipped nice and tight and unlikely to be an issue but a bit longer would have been nice, also the pad sensor plugs are wrong, the loom end is a female plug and the pad side should be male, what have I got female on the pad side aswell...
anyway for now I may just cut the male plug off my old pads and join the two wire together to keep things error free.

Glad they are on and that's all I did with mine Rob as there aren't any sensors for the RS29 pads. Can you not remove the washers?

But as you know.....

right then, like all good mechanics , we allways clean our tools and put everything away when we've finished playing, ooops working..lol
just took a few pics for now, not brill but you'll get the drift, also been out for a quick spin.
First impressions, errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr not sure , certainly nice and progressive with a much better feel than the old ones, the slightly long pedal stroke will take a few days to get used to, not a big difference but certainly one that'll take a bit of time to get used to.....otherwise very nice, don't look to shabby behind the rials either...
would I recommend it , most certainly but just make sure you get all the right bits before you start..lol
When the better pads appear then they will be going on asap .

Looking good Rob....my pedal travel was quite a bit at first so I re-bled them and no further air came out. Still appeared the same, then they became that good I hardly have to touch them and I start to slow down.

Fingers crossed yours may settle in or maybe have a look at changing the bias via VCDS.

Btw which pads are in them at the moment and what upgrade are they providing?
