Hi all, just a query, just rang Adrian flux up to ask about a insurance quote for when my face lift S3 gets delivered for then to turn around and say the car £35k is too high in value for them to insure.

Currently have a S3 8P all mods declared etc in 23 and a mech engineer and got a bargain with them in august.

Has this happened to anyone else? And what company are you with ? Car? And age? How much are you paying?

Thanks

Yup exact same, I was with them when I first started driving, apart from I'm a 24 year Mech Eng working at NTCE. ADrian Flux didn't wanna know. £770 is the best quote I've had so far from Elephant, which is just Admiral I think. Which is a **** take in of itself because compared to home near Sheffield it's 250 quid more just for living on MK

Got quoted 820 from swift cover, was paying 600 and I could drive any car fully comp it's a joke

Don't seem cheap to insure, I paid just over £360 for the R32 - albeit a cheaper car but the S3 is coming to at least around £500. I'm 30 been driving since I was 18 have full no claims so far and drive trains so a responsible job to boot.

Admiral here too and no Joy with Adrian Flux. Wanted silly money and I'm no young one!! The comment was along the lines of "you've only had your performance car for a few months sir and that's likely to impact the premium"
Doesn't matter that I've got max NCB and am old enough to have watched band aid. It's a lottery I'm afraid. Mind cost nearly £500 in the end

Are you really sure that you can drive other cars fully comp? I think that's unusual.
It's normally 3rd party when driving other cars.

Endsleigh and a ful of others told me the car was too dear to insure!

Got it with bell for 800... 22 NI (close to steal your car and burn it out area) self employed

My quotes dropped by 200 by adding mum and dad on as named drivers

Adding a second, "mature driver" can have a positive effect on your premium. Im on a friends policy (Im the mature one - allegedly :haha: )

It dropped his premium over £150,, and no, I don't really know why either :racer:

I changed to A/F during my second year of insurance when I started to persue engine mods. I guess being over a year old may have pushed it below any valuation threshold that they may have. I'm more than double your age too ;o(((

I was with Co-op insurance when I had my A4 then when I bought the S3 I asked them to transfer it over. They said, "Sorry, but cannot insure the Audi S3". I'm 38 and have 9 years no claims, go figure! So I went with Elephant in the end who are charging extortionate money :-(

Hi,

Sorry to hear we could not find cover for this, if you wanted to PM me I'd be happy to look into it for you.

Kind Regards
Dan

I had a similar issue going from my modified s3 8v, which I insured with them, and found them competitive, to my rs3 8v with a stage 1 map which again they were happy to insure....... but only with a compulsory excess of £4,500! Thanks Adrian flux... but no thanks. Found Admiral were the cheapest all round for me.

Wonder if it has to do with the number being stolen ?

Had exactly the same thing with Adrian Flux>>
Was insured with my import Mitsubishi MiVEC V6 FTO, bought an 8P S3 not even thinking about the insurance.
When i went to change it over they would'nt touch it then tried to charge me an admin charge for cancellation.
After demanding to speak to the customer service manager they waved the admin charge, and i went to AVIVA for £380.

I had a very positive experience with Adrian Flux, I asked for a quote with what would of been a 2016 3 door stage 2 S3 ( BCS d/p, Unicorn map, TiP, air filter ), and was quoted £400 with 3rd party cover for other cars or £420 with fully comp cover for other cars. I'm 57, have my wife as a named driver, and I live in Gloucester. Unfortunately I had to cancel due to other priorities.

Perhaps being 57 may have something to do with it :p

No problems here either.... but we are both well over 57 !
£43k worth, £320 fully comp, nobody else to drive except us two, 5k mileage ( we have two other cars as well), kept in garage except when actually being driven.
Highway ( part of LV) via Chris Knott .

As Ross1 says, one of the very few advantages!

Very strange that an insurer who advertises that they are friendly to any sort of modded car won't insure a standard FL S3. Very strange indeed!

Insurance is about risk . Is a car that has mods more likely to be stolen ?
Not really . The fact that S3 is top of the list of stolen cars is a bigger risk that is clear . Is a car with more mods a bigger risk . A point that is not so clear . Same as the different opinion about driver awareness courses . Opinion is split . Some treat it the same or worse than three points , others say you will be a better driver.
Premiums are also higher for low value cars over seven years old , as they are more likely to be involved in an accident. Next year maybe the m4 will be top of the list .

24
5 years no claims
Will be Just under a grand a year to insure the s3
But I live in Slough, Berkshire
So........ thats why my price is fairly high.

I've not 'needed' to attend a driver awareness course :friendly wink: but, over the years, I've been on several Driving Courses run by Audi. I learnt quite a lot but there is no obvious benefit that would make me a 'safer' risk, other than my own pride in trying to be better /more knowledgeable!
I keep meaning to look into the I.A.M. - doubt it reduces premiums but you can always learn something :cheerful:

Hi,
I'm surprised we couldn't offer you any quote regardless of price. Seems strange to me. If you wanted to PM me the details so I could investigate why that would be great.
Regards,
Dan.
