Thundercliffe Daytona/Magma B9 S4 Avant Thread

I'm only noticing it immediately after cold start. I agree letting the idle settle seems to sort it.

Same problem and solution on outgoing S5 (s-tronic)

I might be teaching everyone to suck eggs but every car I've owned race the idle when cold, its because more fuel is dumped in to cold start an engine and aid warming up...

Yup, I think we've drifted slightly here. Cars idle higher on cold start. That's a given. What a few of us have noticed is, however, the drivetrain jumping forward when foot released from break. Jolting the car quite fast. Never done it in my B8.5 S4.

But now, here's an example of an S5 V6 supercharged doing the same. 90% of the time, letting the idle run down fully stops the issue. But not every time. Point being, the 8 speed is a very different animal from what a few us are seeing.

Ok thanks for that, perhaps then, as I believe the gearbox is in other manufacturers cars, it might be a good idea to research other forums that have a reference to it?
In searching google there's a few on the zf 8hp automatic gearbox...

It's a weird one for sure. It really is quite a violent jolt. My car has been sitting for best part of a week this week so will be interesting to see if the handbrake/brakes are an issue tomorrow when I go home. It's a minor issue that seems to have remedied with waiting a few mins but it just caught me off guard quite a lot a few weeks ago. Is it a Porsche derived gearbox?

My current car (520d) has the 1st generation ZF 8HP gearbox. It will pull away more smartly when engine is idling faster, but no jolt.

Certainly does. I didn't expect it. It's throughout the interior Sublime.

@Thundercliffe81 - Where did you put those interior pics showing the stitching. It's a beautiful combo.

Ps.. Status 22! Being painted! :D

More reason for me to get excited now :) lots of interior pics when your next in it would be great. Yours is the only one I've seen with magma

That combo is nothing short of stunning. The carbon inlays and contrast stitching turn what for me personally is a pretty awful seat colour into a place of pure joy.

Evening all. How much is labour from a reputable firm to lower the S4? Parts and labour...Eibach springs about £200.

Thanks for your help

You're spot on. I seen magma in the old B8 a few times and I thought it to be hideous. I think the gloss/grey finish on rear half of the seats really breaks it up. Carbon seemed to aid this even further when I was putting it all together. Obviously, exterior colour is a huge factor.

Cheers bud, it's really paid off.

Magma & carbon combo is truely stunning. The best looking interior for the S4. My next car will be an A4 and I wish I could get Magma as a standard option!

Call me crazy...

But 'this' is going through my head at the moment and I think it would look the tits. BUT, I'm not naive. 21" just too big for the S4? Everybody nodding, yup? Yup? Thought so...

Aesthetically it is not too big. Technically I have no idea.

Definitely looks fantastic but we all know the 'buts'.

Ps.. did you take that photo, if so what is that brown/orange/bronze thing in the background? :)

Ride comfort would suffer I know and the obvious $ factor or replacing tyres. Ouch. But I'd use these as summer wheels only anyway. Stock photo mate. Looks like an S8 in Ipemena (?) brown?

I'm tempted by the RS6 wheels. Very unique for an S4 and wouldn't be as fussed about minor damage, where as if I bought a set of vossens or something, I'd drive like a vicar. And that, is not why I bought an S4 haha.

They look incredible on this RS3 so if that can take them, I'm sure my S4 can. After digging into this though, the RS3 is sporting the 20" version used on the A6 Black Edition. Very nice.

Just don't go around any corners in it as it looks to me as if the front tyres are inside the wheel arches...

The RS3 is lowered I think. He's put a bit of money into it. 20s on an S4 won't be an issue. RS4 to come...

I'd really expect the ride comfort to be pretty poor with 21's.

I think they've been snapped up. £500! Would have been perfect haha. They must be pretty common though surely.

Depends on the offset, from memory the A6 offset is a better suit then A5 versions

Ummmm. Not in my car at moment. I've used pretty much everything. Maybe I'm doing it wrong but, the parking info and prices could have been amalgamated into Google Earth. That would have helped. Feels like I need to use several systems for different information.

Sending routes to car works well. Impressed with that. Destination and current location info is a novelty. Can't say I use it for much else. I thought it would automatically update the app of the car location. When you park somewhere for example. Nope, seems you need to remember to update the app if its location before you leave. Seems a bit counter intuitive of the purpose of the feature. Ie 'forgetting' where you've parked' in a new city for example. Need to check my licenses though. Think they're wrong.

Mine automatically tells me where the car's location is when I have parked it up. No need to tell the connect app anything, but then you have a iPhone...

Bit snooty isn't it...? Yes, I'm stuck in an iPhone contract. CarPlay is good. That's about it.

But there you go, the app must be pants on my phone.

IOS10 already automatically marks your cars location when you park and disconnect from Bluetooth or CarPlay. Works perfectly on mine so I've no need to go near the Audi apps to do it.

Always amazes me how accurate it is - even down to the right parking bay i left it in...
