Well had a proper home mechanics day yesterday and me and Future (Tom) and JtotheD (Josh) managed to get my shiney new stainless steel goodness fitted.

I will just say that fitting the new stuff is a peice of cake really and access to the turbo nuts isnt too bad using some universal joints on spanners etc.

What i will say is removing the old OEM Downpipe is a proper fecker!

Cost of removal is as follows :

£4,000,000 in the swear jar
1 pint of blood
a yard of skin
3 angle grinder discs

Had a mini accident and caught a power steering pipe with the angle grinder (i was almost done so sods law was that i cut it on the last section) so gotta fix that at some point soon as cant use the car till then (see my previous thread for a part number request) also couldnt get the post lambda sensor out of the cat so have to get a new oneof those too.

Still am really pleased that we managed to do it between us and learnt alot about my car and feel much more confident doing some of these bigger jobs now so next on the list is an FMIC setup.

Big thanks to Tom (stayed till 10:30pm to get the car back together) and to Josh too for some brute force lol.

Rob

relentless v3 downpipe and 200cell cat fitment was spot on too.

it looks really good now mate :) glad we got it all done and back together easy!

If it wasnt for the tired mistake cutting the damn power steering pipe it would of been a 100% success so am still very happy with what we acheived :)

just had another go at removing the old post cat lambda sensor but it wont budge at all and looks like they are about £70 on ECP :(

also still trying to find out what the pipe is i broke too

just found a 30% off code for ecp so makes it £50 for the lambda sensor so dont think i will find it cheaper so shall i just buy it?

Ordered Lambda sensor now so just need to source the power steering pipe.

sweet lambda sounds good :) that pipe will just be a ring soton audi job :o.k:

Right just a mini update on this as the car is now sorted :)

Got the new Lambda sensor from ECP, it was a universal sensor so had to use the old connector off the lambda sensor still stuck in the cat but the EML light has gone off now after clearing the codes and all is good.

Mannaged to drop the subframe on my own (very proud of that) and remove the power steering pipe i knicked with the angle grinder. Phoned Audi who wanted £210 plus vat for a new one!!! so went to the local metal workshop who welded up the very small hole for me for a grand total of £5 :) re-fitted it all and filled with power steering fluid and no leaks so thats all good too.

Went to the local wheel allignment centre (had the whole car done a couple of months ago) and he re-did the front allignment for me for £20 so thats all straight and true now too.

So all in all job is done and now time for a spot of logging later today :)

Just a case of fitting an FMIC and i should be hot to trot for some stage 2 mapping goodness.

Cheers Dave am very proud to of done the work myself (obvioulsy had a bit of help from Tom and Josh).

Bring on the FMIC install next :)

mini update :

car has been running really well and am loving the noise when it gets on boost :)

The EML light came back on today :( so quick scan shows that the lambda been at issue again so did a bit of googling and it looks like the generic sensors can cause issues. So went back to my removed old cat and had another go at removing my old OEM sensor. managed to get a ring spanner onto it this time and got it so i could stand on it for leverage and it undid :)
so have now put that on the car and cleared the codes and the EML light has gone so am gonna return the new one back to ECP for a refund and tell them that should not be listing this part as compatible for the S3.

Rob

Sadly, i find most sensors bought from car spares type places dont do the job.
Dont know why/how they can sell them when they dont work.

OEM is a must, even at the prices they charge.

glad to hear she is running properly now :) late night mechanicing session soon i feel! :)
