Hi again, my 3.2dsg went over 80k miles recently and had a service including engine oil change and new spark plugs.

It drove real nice after the service and still does apart from what I think is a bit of a hesitation started going on. Its really hard to explain to the garage, and I feel I only notice it because I know the car..

I wanted them to replace the gearbox oil while it was in for service but they said they couldn't do it, any idea why? also I've read changing the haldex oil at 40/80k, is this the same as gearbox oil?

Also read about a software update but has only recently started hesitating so would it be that?

Thanks

Can you describe the behaviour, what causes/when it happens in a little more detail? No idea why they couldn't replace the gearbox oil... (they may not have had official oil handy?!)

I have phoned quite a few garages this morning and finally chose http://www.datsc.com/ to take my car to as the DSG box is lurching a bit in 1st. I have spoken to dealership and trans specialists and none of them seemed to exhibit the same amount of knowledge as datsc, hopefully they can fix mine.

Really hard to describe but here goes - when I'm driving off it feels a bit lumpy, will hesitate slightly then lurch a bit (but not badly) only happens when I'm pottering along and now I notice it I find myself almost using the throttle too gingerly. In harder acceleration its not noticeable.

Do they give you any idea what the problem with your car could be?

After a lot of reading it is either: Mechatronic unit, adaptive drive needs a re-run, DSG oil, clutchpack - they said the same to me over the phone and re-told some stories of which order people have tried to solve it in the past, going in for diag on Monday so will know more then.

If it is the mechatronic unit, they can be purchased refurbed, or fixed depending on the damage. Not sure if the problem you are describing is exactly the same as mine, but the bubbling and lurching might be separate?

Hi MattTi

Your symptoms and your uncertainties sound very like my own. Very difficult to explain to a garage. Bearable but not pleasant. Makes you almost frightened to drive the thing. Have you read this thread:...

Providing your revs aren't leaping around and your engine doesn't sound like a tin of marbles, you can rule out timing chain.

I'd get a VCDS scan and check your Motronic software number. Details in that rambling thread (try to filter out the fluff). You're looking for 8088 or higher. As far as I know, only Audi can do the update. Dealerships vary, be polite and patient. Expect to pay about an hour's 'labour'.

Seems the old software adjusts the valve timing around 1800-2000 rpm. Under certain age-related conditions, the software gets it wrong in every flipping gear.

This update cured my hesitation in a stroke.

Still left a lurchy feeling pulling away from standstill. Felt like front wheels were overcoming the rear.

Don't mess about. If you haven't already then:

- Fresh DSG oil
- Fresh Haldex oil
- Throttle body adaptiation
- DSG reset

You'll need to attend to these at some point. Why put up with it until later. Do it and enjoy the results.

In my case, the Haldex oil was a very nasty black and probably the cause.

Hope this helps you.

Apologies for typos. Am bouncing round a train

Let us know how you get on

Hi Loque, let us know what happens Monday, I find sometimes the more I look into what the problem could be the more things it could be, I'd just like to hand the car to someone and say something isn't right, let me know what it is and if you can fix it, never works like that though because to someone else the car runs fine. I just know it isn't isn't 100%

Hi d2w, I had come across the post you commented in today on my searches. The revs are fine and it had the timing chain replaced at 72k.

Will start with finding out what the motronic software number is, then go from there. I had wanted to get the dsg oil changed so will find a garage that will do this for me, also the haldex oil.

It does ruin driving the car knowing it isn't running right, but as I said to anyone else driving the car they probably think it runs fine.

bouncing around in a train sounds like a bunch of fun...

I just scanned the fault codes and it came up with P2187, could this of been when I left the oil filler off?

The range of possibilities is considerable. Try this to get you started:

www.obd-codes.com/p2187

If you reset the fault code, does it reoccur?...

Best of luck
