Hi all, my A4 sounds like it has a supercharger fitted and the mood is coming from the front right of the engine. Everything is working okay but i’d like to change the serpentine auxiliary belt and tensioner.

Does anyone have a how to or can give me a method to change them?

Is it possible without removing the front of the car?

Cheers, Mark

Hi I’ve only ever changed belt with front off but I’m lead to believe you can do it if you remove bumper and draw the front panel forward on long bolts you gain about 40-50 mm access is still tight but doable I think they’ll be someone on here who knows
Good luck

You have to remove the front bumper and put the front end in the service position. Then you need a breaker bar and a large torx bit to be able to slacken off the tensioner.

After this you can remove the belt and replace and tensioner if you wish, it is only 2 more bolts. Tbh it is highly unlikely it is the belt causing your problems. More like the alternator......

It could also be one of the idler bearings. A quick spin will tell, you will be able to feel a bad bearing
