I have just agreed to buy a 2006 (56) Audi A6 Le Mans. It will be my first Audi since my 2002 RS6. Its a bit of a project as its been stood a while(almost a year) but I am quite looking forward to getting my hands on it. It has done a lot of miles (180+k miles !!) but runs lovely. It will be my daily driver so progress may not be too quick but I got it to replace my transporter van so will be a commuter/parts collector. Things I know of upto now-
Silver trim around MMI is really shabby, will either replace or tidy up some how
Brakes are rusty due to lack of use but were all replaced about 5000 miles ago, hopefully these will clean up with use but will also strip calipers, rebuild and paint/tidy up
all 4 wheels need a refurb
needs a REALLY good valet/polish

That's about it but I am sure the list will get a lot longer when I get my hand on it and start looking a bit harder. I agreed to buy it before I did a check on it and have just found out that it is in the £615 per year tax class:scared2: by 1g/km Co2. All the ones I checked on auto trader were 225g/km mine states 226g/km which lifts it from £360 to £615 per year:sorrow:.

Its good to be back, looking forward to getting my hands on it later this week, can anyone shed any light on what colour it is?
Thanks in advance, brace yourselves for a flurry of stupid questions:help:

Nice buy.
Also tax classes changed in 2006, that’s why I bought a 2005 A3 3.2, not a 2006 model.

Its a mine field, I have looked at several other A6 lemans 3.0s and all were in the £360 bracket but mine is 1g over according to the tax online site :scared2:

I have an 07 3.0 TDi Lemans too and yes, its 1gm over the lower tax bracket, mainly due to not having the DPF of the later cars which are in the lower bracket.

The V5 rating means nothing I'm afraid, its what the tax website states, in fact iirc, there are 2 .gov websites with 2 different ratings on them! Of course the higher one is the one you pay :(

Oh well, will teach me to do my homework. Still cheaper than my range rover was so that's a bonus I suppose. Good news is the car was a couple of grand cheaper than I was initially budgeting for so that will swallow up the tax costs for a couple of years

From the .gov website, 1gm ***!!
K*: 201 to 225g/km£360£360£378£198£189
L: 226 to 255g/km£615£615£645.75£338.25£322.88
M: Over 255g/km£630£630£661.50£346.50£330.75

Absolutely, thats what i meant!!! 1g is costing us an extra £255 per year:scared2:. Dont suppose there is any point querying it as they will just say it cannot be changed

Nice car, glad you're saving another excellent vehicle.

It's Avus Silver! looking forward to the updates.

The face lift car has the DPF, ours are only DPF prepared. So even if you fit a DPF etc, your CO value will not get adjusted, ever. So there is no incentive to do it. I'm sure they could check your emissions at every MOT...... hang on a sec, they already do this! So if they are really concerned about the environment why not offer a lower tax rate if you can get your cars emissions into a lower bracket? Keeping an older car going is also more environmentally sound then making a new one from fresh resources, no?

Absolutely agree:thumbs up:, I make my living keeping old land rovers on the road and half the appeal is that saving an old car produces much less emissions than it takes to build a new one so I think that anyone prepared to run and upkeep an old car should be rewarded with lower tax and not just at the 40+ years that it currently stands at

It does look a bit of state tbf, but these do scrub up well especially the interiors. Great build quality in the late 2000's.
Get those alloys refurbed and you're away!

@Pee Jam just reading your comments on pdfs, I have 57 plate Le Mans 3.0l, did I read correctly that mine doesn’t have a pdf fitted? I thought all diesels after 2005 had to have them.. am I mistaken?.

BTW I’ve had mine for 6 months now, I absolutely love it!!

Mines a 2008 2.7 Allroad and doesn’t have one either. On the options sticker in the boot it has the PR code - 7gn which is DPF preparation, confusingly though this doesn’t mean it has a dpf……

As Simon says ours are DPF ready but not fitted, In think its the 09 facelifts that got the filter and lowered the CO2 and road tax!

I can confirm this also as mine is a facelift with DPF, all facelift cars had to meet EU5 regulations which require a DPF
