I have been thinking about this for some time and would like to ask what is involved?, aquiring the parts is not a problem but im thinking more along the lines of torque management and ecu issues?. Has anyone done it?. The car is on the limit with power and torque for 2wd hence the question, its an A4, b7, 2.7 Tdi with 6 speed manual gearbox (2006). Thanks in advance
If this proves to be too much hassle or cost then I guess I will be looking for a new project car in the next year or so :)

You will have many issues to sort out and you will really need a donor car for the parts. One thing, don't build a car you can buy !
I am about to convert a FWD 1.9 tdi avant to quattro, reason is that i have a donor car allready + the conversion is bolt on, just time consuming ! I have spent far too much on this car to sell and buy another one + it will mean cheap tax, cheap insurance and is quite a decent spec as well.

100% agree, unless you're doing for the learning experience, find a car thats already what you want, as it will take you down a path you may not like lol.

New project car it is!, whilst we are on projects...... the Rocket will be started on 17th Jan.....I see big bills ahead but boy will it be worth it!. Thanks for your input guys :)

Its still on the roof! but on the upside I now own a car transporter trailer...needs a bit if tlc lol, will be on the mez level for a few days this week dismantling the rocket for painting

There was a member on here who did this IIRC, and its the kind of project I like to take on. I have previously helped build a 4x4 cosworth mk2 escort, a 4x4 cosworth 205gti, a 4x4 cally turbo astramax, and a 4x4 309gti.

I saw the project involving the quatro A3 and decided far too much work, especially when the car can be bought as a quatro. If It was just a case of bolting on the rear axle and gearbox, then sure would be worth it. IIRC the whole floorpan was different.

IMO for the price of used parts, you could prob pic up a good quattro and then spend the money on tweaking it.

Still thinking about this as the guy who mapped it had a drive with the water meth on and said and I quote "this would be awesome if it was a quattro". So I have been looking at options and there is a car available with all I need but I need to know the following
A, is a BUG engine compatable with a BPP engine or does it just refer to the drive and gearbox?, ie will the gearbox fit on my engine?, if so then I will make the guy an offer on the car and what I don't need will sell on,
here's a link to the car im thinking of buying
A6 ALLROAD TDI QUATTRO 2007 2.7 TDI BREAKING FULL CAR ALL PARTS - WHEEL NUT | eBay

my only concern is making the clever bits work such as sensors and torque splitting etc I guess it would be still driveable without all the gubbins but would be a shame not to do it right, any advice would be most greatfully received as this could turn into a nightmare!

A6 running gear won't fit a4 + most quattro a6 i've seen were automatic gearboxes, not sure about that one... You will have a shock if they tell you how much they want for the whole car...better buy yourself the right car and swap the mods over.

It's not as hard as most people think, it's a mechanical system so wiring is all good...

Here's a DIY from Audizine

Just need all the bits before you set too it... jobs a goodun. Don't be put off, I'd say go for it but I'm the nutter who swapped the engine in my TT for one with Wideband and VVT (apx to bam... which was previously in my 1.4 golf) so maybe I'm not the best source for reasoning

I say go for it! just make sure you get all the bits and do it properly first time :icon_thumright:

All parts aquired, temp runabout sourced.... just waiting on some ramptime and putting the band back together!!,

He's ok with with concept...I'll make the tea etc lol

this will be good! looking forward to lots of install pics PLEASE

Im thinking of some sort of youtube thing?, and will defo drop by to let you have a look when its done Chris:)
