Facelift S3 Exhaust Valves

@AudiNutta not heard from @pburv since May mate, he's taken up a new Hobby in the form of joining a Gun Club and spends all his time shooting off in the woods now lol

:lmfao: Shooting off in the woods, not quite sure how I was supposed to interpret that ;)

That is a shame, but glad he is seemingly OK.

Hello Lads,

So if I select exhaust flaps not installed in VCDS does that mean the exhaust flaps are open permanently or shut.

Thanks, Sorry for the daft question.

Hopefully somebody else could help you with this, not sure if VCDS actually opens them before disabling. But to be safe, I'd want to open them and then disable while the engine is running.

I believe the flap activates (and closes) when powered. So they effectively "fail open" when the car is shut off.

Mine close when the car is off. My remote opens them permanently. But for example when you go back and unlock the car, the fuel pump primes etc.. my valves then close. Or if I'm washing it and open the doors an hour later, the valves close. Seems to be they go dead and stay open when you first ignition off, but the first influx of power to the car afterwards closes them... so even though my remote is always on, it resets back to closed.

Hmm that's interesting and good to know! :)

Cheers for the info!

So last week I had my car in for a service so I re-enabled the flaps before it went in.

Yesterday I thought I would just disable them again but this is where the problem seemed to occur.
I went into VCDS and cleared the relevant BIT but when I checked, the flaps were still closed and remained closed.
Tried it a couple of times but still the same, even after leaving the car for half an hour just it case it took a while for the power to turn off.

So I thought I would just disconnect the connector, as people have done before and then disable it in VCDS.
However even after removing the connectors the flaps remained closed.

The only way I could get them to open was to turn the engine on, set the S Tronic to Sport and then when I turned the car off they remained open.
I then disabled in VCDS and they are now open and have stayed open.

So if people have removed the connectors and then not noticed much difference it is probably because the flaps have remained closed if they were already closed as they seem to be locked in both the open and closed positions.

Well, sometimes people seem to be blinded by all the technology on these cars, thinking the hard way is the only way.

Unplugging valves appears to be the Heath Robinson approach which gets you dirty hands and knees, followed up at the opposite end of the scale by plugging in several hundred £'s worth of IT equipment, tinkering with the cars brain and disabling the valves in VCDS.

Despite dozens of threads on this subject, No-one appears to have had the hallelujah moment yet...

If you can run with them unplugged without any issue, then there's clearly no closed loop of any consequence in the logic. Snip the wire and insert a switch, then enjoy the best of both worlds without forking out the thick end of £200 on some over elaborate designer remote fob from the States or having to kneel in a puddle when you have to give your mother-in-law a lift to the shops.

If you're lucky, the wires in question are probably tucked away behind the dash somewhere anyway, so you'd only need a wiring diagram to locate them. Then snip, solder, and wire in a switch to give all the audible jollies you require. Easy.

As I said, I'd do it very discreetly, with a switch hidden out of the way somewhere. Sometimes though there's just no denying the twelve year old version of ourselves that lies just beneath the surface, and I dare you to deny never having wanted one of these in your car;

Best place to put a switch would be one of the switch blanks on the dash

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, does anyone know how to power/control the module separately? I've got myself an S3 exhaust and diffuser to fit to my A3 1.8TFSI Quattro. Looking to wire them to a dash button like this. But don't know how the flap module works with regards to powering and open/close? I just want on/off none of the fancy dynamic/comfort mode settings or off at certain revs

If I manage to get it going I'll do a full write up for the forum, seems a few people would like to be able to just have closed or open?
