hi guys, new to this forum,

So I got my A3 Cabriolet S line beginning of August, I'm in love with the car, only issue is, the start stop hasn't been working in a while. I forgot I even had it, first week or two it was working and I liked the idea of it, now I can't even remember the last time it worked.
I done some research apparently it only works in certain temp, inside and out, not using heated seats etc etc, I've experimented with everything. I usually drive with music playin through AUX fairly loudly, Bluetooth on to take calls and the DLR(daytime lights that may not be the correct obrivation) but I have tried everything!
Turned climate control off, unplugged the aux, turned Bluetooth off, turned lights off, heated seats off and the car STILL DOES NOT STOP.
It's so frustrating, the only thing I didn't check was the battery, checked the voltage, with the car on it reads 14.something which if I remember correctly is what it should do.

So I have no idea what or why it's not working. Everytime it should work, it comes up with the start stop and the "A" in the circle but there's always a line through it. That's everytime I stop, so it knows it should be doing it and the handbook says it only does this if it's unavailable but I believe I reach all requirements.
Also if it helps, if i stall the car it does restart automatically so I don't think it's an issue with the whole feature.

Would it be worth me taking it to an an Audi dealership? Would they charge to look at it?

Any help or advice would be very very much appreciated

It's a good thing it's not working as it's a pain in the backside .. that's the reason I have mine permanently disabled.

If you're concerned then get it to an Audi or VW specialist, not a main dealer.

Welcome to Audi-sport.net . You seem to have covered a lot of the bases. How old is your car ? .
If it's under warranty then I suggest you take it to a dealer and get them to check it out.
If it's out of warranty then you need to get it checked for any fault codes. This should show up any issues that are causing the stop start not to function. Although the battery voltage is over 14V when the car is running this is not really an indication of the battery status, just that the alternator is putting out enough voltage to charge the battery.
If the battery management thinks the battery capacity is low it will disable the stop start system.
Batteries in these cars do take a lot of abuse especially if used in built up areas with lots of traffic. They aren't cheap either as they tend to be AGM type batteries, not your normal run of the mill battery.

Thanks for the replies guys
Car is seven years old, I'm the third owner so I assume it's not in warranty.
Could I just diagnose it myself then look into the codes or would you still recommend going to a specialist? If so would they charge for it, I have no clue but it doesn't seem like it'll take much labour or parts anything

Battery on that car looks like an 096 and should be an AGM type for stop start. If it is the battery I would fit a Varta item.
Check the battery size and dimensions first. Strictly speaking new batteries on cars with battery management should be coded in with VAG-COM.

Thank you again,
I double checked the voltage for the battery today with everything on, front and rear window demist, climate control, radio, full beams, heated seats and the volts was still over 14 so I don't believe think I would need a new battery.

Guess I'll have to try take it to a specialist, see what they think

As I said earlier the voltage on the battery when the engine is running is not really an indication of the battery status but more that the alternator is working correctly. The alternator on modern cars is capable of putting out over well over 120A so will comfortably power all that stuff and more and maintain the battery voltage. The Voltage of the battery in the morning when it's been standing overnight is more relevant.
A good battery should be something like 12.6-12.7 V . An older battery may be down to 12.2v or less.
Had a bit of a search around and found this thread. It's a mini but the same principles apply.

If you have a battery charger it may be worth charging the battery overnight and then see if the stop/ start works the next day. Don't be tempted to fit a non AGM battery, It will probably work but the reason AGM batteries are used is because they are able to stand upto the repeated charge / discharge cycles that a normal non AGM battery won't like.
