1.6l Enginer Problems (randomly cuts out)

so the last few days i've been having problems with my A3 8P 1.6 Petrol. It has started to randomly cut out and leave me stranded for 10-15 minutes before starting again.

The engine shuts down, electrics still work (windows radio lights etc all fine), it is trying to turn over when i turn the key but it just wont fire up. 10 minutes later it will start first time. I've had it scanned with vagcom and snapon diagnostic tools but both are showing no fault codes. Also the engine management light is not showing.

My uncle is taking it into his garage on Tuesday to have a look over it and see if he can find anything, but im wondering if anyone here has had something similar happen to them.

Oh and it has just been M.O.T'd and serviced last week.

The emissions control system warning light came on today and when scanned it came up with the code 16804 - Catalyst System; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold
P0420 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent. Anyone have any clue what could be causing this?

I was suffering with a similar problem this time last year, my car would randomly turn off on long drives and would struggle to start, then after a while it would start again. The only difference is I didn't have the error you're getting, mine turned out to be the crankshaft sensor. Ross Tech says the following about your error:

Possible Causes

• Leakage in Intake and/or Exhaust System
• Catalyst faulty
• Oxygen Sensor(s) faulty
• Oxygen Sensor(s) Control faulty

Possible Solutions

• Check Intake and Exhaust System for Leaks
• Check Catalyst
• Check Oxygen Sensor(s)
• Check Oxygen Sensor(s) Control
  • Perform Oxygen Sensor(s) Aging Check

Thanks, yeah before the light came on it was in the garage and had the fuel pump relay and crankshaft sensor replaced so I'm hoping it's just going to be a connection to the oxygen sensor or the sensor itself that's broken.
