Wha cha reckon? Midland vw just told me not to put a recon turbo on my 1.8 bex 190!

Will it throw it off in a hulk like rage?
Or maybe melt it with its t2000 like eye laser?

Comments please!

I've not got a clue if the engine will like the recon turbo, but I think vw Midlands just want to sell you a new one.. See what others say though.

I'm thinking it's gonna like it a hell of a lot more than the dodery old one that's on it now!

How on earth can it not like a new turbo? I'm really quite annoyed !

As long as you buy one from a reputable company, and not a cheap Chinese ebay one it will be fine.

As said above, they just want to charge you a kidney for a new factory unit from them.

As above fitting a good recon turbo from a good company will only benefit your engine as long as your engine is healthy maybe worth getting the map checked once you have fitted just to complement everything

I asked them, what were their thoughts on shoving a k04-15 on, they didn't even know what I'd need....

Seems midland vw ain't all that!

Yeah, I even said that being the bex I had bigger injectors than the 163 , hence wondering if I could run the big turbo without upgrade. He didn't even know that, his words, ' I'm not sure about that engine'.....

**Alarm bells**

Sounds like they want to make some $$ on a new one tbh. It would be fine with a good reconditioned one or k04 and better than a dead or damaged one for sure.

Think it's safe to say we all agreed I need one!

some rebuilt or remanufactured turbos are shoddily made and thus some garages will prefer to avoid them,

A new, genuine, K03-073 is around £600. You could have yours rebuilt for maybe half of that. I guess its upto you to decide if thats worth it or not.

K04-015 is essentially no different to what you have now. It was designed as an upgrade for the old K03-005 used on the original B5 150hp engine, and the K03S fitted to the 190 BEX engine has the same compressor as the K04-015 has, albeit with a slightly smaller turbine.

Thanks for that, kinda what I wanted to hear on the comparison of the two. Have ordered a recon with the intention of rebuilding the one I have!

Sorry to revive an old thread but it's the closest to my problem..i have a BEX A4 1.8T with a dead turbo and a friend has a spare k04-015 ,my car right now is remapped ,could i just put the k04 in without any other mods like maf, injectors, etc ?I know probably i am going to need a new remap ...
