Hi,

I'm going to be replacing the tyres on my A4, I've narrowed it down to a choice of 5.
Tyre size 245/40/18, I average between 15k-18k miles each year so long life would be ideal.

Have a look at tyreleader.Co.UK what ever you decide to get, as above I wouldn't go for kuhmos. The Goodyear eagle f1 is now available in a newer assy 3 or continual sport contact 6
 
Dunlop Sportmax GT, I get around 18k for fronts and more like 26k for rears. Grip is ok and they're pretty consistent.

Yeh it's an older design, and consequently the price has dropped, so if distance is a big factor these are a great "slightly older" premium tyre for not really premium prices. I don't do mega miles but I do enough I know I want something that will always do over 15k no matter how I drive.

I'm a big goodyear fan - the Asymmetric 2 tyre suits the A4 really well. But replaced with the Asymmetric 3 the other day. Not impressed, noisy and no where near as positive as the 2's when chucked into a corner.

No idea what they've changed, but they just aren't the same.
 
I've used Kumhos the past 3 times on 2 different cars and they were fine for me, a good all-rounder. The latest one though isn't as good in the wet as they used to be so I'm changing soon and going for Vredestein Ultrac Vorti (or another brand, which escapes me now!)
 
I'm on the Pirelli P7 Blues all round (unfortunately limited by choice due to needing 4 same day ouch!!) but been quite impressed so far.

Grip is a little less than the Conti 3s on previously but at least no tramlining and despite doing about 8K miles they've only lost 2mm from new when AudI measured them at the MOT. At the time GY Assy weren't available on 225 50 17 either.

If I had time to wait I'd have had the SportMaxx RT2 for a bit less noise and grip.
 
Goodyear Eagle F1's all the way. So much quieter than my last Continental Contact Sport 5p's and still with excellent levels of grip.
 
My Audi dealership fitted just one Nexen N8000 245/40 ZR18 97Y XL on opposite the part worn factory fitted Pirelli, I dont like mixed tyres on an axle so bought a new Nexen to match it. I was pleasantly surprised by the grip, noise level, wear and most of all price. So I just bought another 2 for the front at £105 the pair!!

I have the Pirelli P7 s on my S4 and have been pleasantly surprised. I didn't expect much but they've been fine in wet and dry which is all I ask.
 
I have been looking for tyres too, I have P Zero's on the rear, and Continental Contisport Contact 3 on the front, I find I am always fighting the front, and it tramlines terribly, so looking to get rid of those ASAP

I have been trying to find a tyre that has an "A" rating for fuel economy, and an "A" rating for grip, but the best [premium brand] I can find is the P Zero 225/35 R19 88Y with a "B" and "A" rating, however, looking around, there seem to be a few P Zero's and they vary. The ones I am looking at are THESE. There are 3 listed, the first one is a run flat, (so dearer), the other 2 look identical, but vary on price; confusing!
 
Super Sports. Hands down. I've replaced my awful Contis a while back. The S4s another car.
 
Super sports are "E" rated for fuel economy, and "A" for grip, I'll go on referrals, but wondering how much difference "E" vs "A" is in real life?

How are they for noise & comfort; I have a Black Edition which gives a lot of feedback?
 
Not up on "Es and As" Macster. My car goes like the clappers and these tyres are the quietest most grippy tyre of had. This is personal. Mate this thread comes up every 5 minutes and everyone has their own take on it.

I think we need more tyre threads on ASN. Two a week is just not enough. :D

It's a valid point , the premium brands are bringing out a new tyre every 3 days so two new threads is never enough .

Also it's worth noting about the validity of car model specific threads as a great experience of a Michelin on one car means the same tyre even between SE or Sport would cause it to fall off the road .

People have dumped tyre reviews as their first point of call and come to ASN the great tyre forum

Just checked my tyre treads, fronts on 2mm, (which won't help handling), and I just noticed I have 3 Conti's and 1 Pirelli fitted, (as supplied by Audi), I saw the Pirelli on the back and presumed they were both the same, but no, they mixed them on the same axle! So I've emailed them, asking Audi to sort the rears, and to give me a good price on the fronts, (well, you never know)!
 
I've just ordered 2 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's at £78 each for my B8

Not even Camskill could get close to that price

vreds are brilliant tyres - quiet and feel really planted and that is such a good price but that image is not an ultrac sessanta ?

the Ultrac SUV sessanta is (I assume) for a Sports Utility so not really for the A4 ??

Ultrac Sessanta should look like this ???

I have 2 x Michelin Pilot Super Sports on order at £170:00 each, I'm torn between the Pirelli P Zero @ £125:50 each, and PSS, don't want to spend so much when I can get the P Zeros deal, but I do want good, reliable, tyres, that are grippy and last; I do about 8k a year

Michelin Pilot Super Sport

After going through many tyre manufacturer's and wanting the Continental Sport Contact 5 for a long time and finally getting them on my S4 I now have Michelin Pilot Super Sport and I don't think I'll change to anything else from this point forward, they are excellent.

I ran the vredestens sessantas and loved them, grip was great, wet or dry, but one of my tyres got buldges that caused vibration , when i sold my wheels and the guy i sold to said he had same buldging issue with sessantas in the past (more than once I think he said), i know it is normally caused by damage but I dont remember any harsh potholes in their life time on the car.
So little weary of the Sessantas I got the Eagle f1s for my summers based off many good reviews and comparisons claiming people preferred them to the Michelins! got a thmbs up from the guy i bought them to for fitting, and he reckoned better than michelins too.

So far I would say straight line acceleration (Very hard full throttle acceleration) I feel possibly a little less grip from the torque of the car on the F1s compared to my michelins, but warm weather the same if not better on the F1s, only been using them a month but highly rate and cheaper!

I run with no complaints:
Michelin Pilot Super Sport on my winters
Good year Eagle F1 Assemetric 2 on my summers

2-3K per year, crumbs as "bad" as me at the moment, my original P Zero Rossos are now 5 years old and getting a bit low (for this type of car), so I'm still thinking that sticking with what the car left the factory suits me when I replace them before summer - especially as I use the 18" wheels and Alpin Pilots when the weather is cold and wet.

Edit:- just to repeat myself, I have nothing against Michelin summer tyres for use only in summer, it is just that with my expected annual mileage, they would run out of life before they ran out of thread depth.
 
I'll be using them year-round as I don't have a spare set of wheels.

The Pilot Super Sports look promising, anyone seen them less than £170:00 each fitted?
Eagle F1 (2) are £140:00 each fitted at KF
Vredesteins look okay too, not sure about the bulging though...

Those that have used both, do you think I would I notice much difference between the Pilot Super Sport and the Eagle F1's on a 150PS Black Edition?

The P Zero Rosso are £125:50 each fitted if you order from KwikFit online, If you drive into a centre, they'll cost you £180:00-odd; apparently as the online people have no overheads and they have to make a certain % profit on each tyre at the physical store.

Eagles it is then, and they'll save me £30:00 per tyre, I'll feedback when I get them :D
