Hi All,

After some advise and looking to see if anyone has experienced the same thing.

I have a 2009 S3 Sportback, manual, just tipped over 70k. I have started to notice when it 4th, 5th and 6th gear and accelerating fairly hard (eg. on slip road onto motorway) and the car is under load, pretty much at top boost (between 3000-4000 rpm) I get a slip, but not for very long, second or two.... Seem to be very noticeable in damp and/or cold weather.

My gut feeling, given the symptoms and the mileage of the car, is it's time for a new clutch, but before I jump into it I wanted to get the views of other owners to see if this is 100% a new clutch and DMF (I'm guessing) or something else...?

It just seem a bit intermittent at the moment and it might only a coincidence but I only started to notice after I had to change the car battery.

Cheers

Seems like a clutch problem, should have lasted longer than 70k miles but depends on whether a previous driver rode the clutch pedal. Try accelerating up a hill in a higher gear than you normally use,if it slips then then it is the clutch. Best get saving for the whole package before it fails completely. If you just change the clutch parts then you can bet your bottom dollar the flywheel will give up some time later, sods law.

Hi Soot1

Thanks for the feedback. I have tried the accelerating up a hill in a high gear and I can get it to do it, but only which the car is approaching or is in the optimum boost range, so you can imagine around town its hard to get the to that range in 5th or 6th without doing 70-80 mph ;-)

One previous lady owner, I purchased the car on 63k 18 months ago, don't do big miles so the problem might have been there for a while, just not noticing until I do a big journey!

Looks like its a Clutch and DMF then.

Clutch I'd say, I had same symptoms pre new clutch time, intermittent to start with, then gradually getting more frequent, exactly the same as you have written above though, higher gears, under load... Can't comment on longevity of the clutch, my TFSI Avant was on 125k...!

Definitely sounds like the clutch, mine went at about 55k, previous owner had lived in London so I assume it was stop start traffic...my wallet didn't particularly appreciate it going so early !
