What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

If you snap the seat belt in the clasp and start the car without sitting in it you will notice no alerts

There is no seat occupancy in the driver seat , it’s the seat belt clasp that will activate the seat belt alerts . They can be deactivated in vcds.
The seat occupancy for the front in b7 seats was for the passenger airbag and seat belt alerts.
The driver’s side is live as soon as the ignition is switched on .

This was passenger seat.it kept throwing an air bag fault due to a pinched wire that was caused by the lumber adjustment
Note “mit Heizung “on the underside leather

Definitely no occupancy sensor though unless part of the heat mat

I start the car all the time without sitting in it ( i have this habbit of clearing the windows all round before i drive off, and i start the car to help defog mirrors, windscreen and rear window) no seatbelt noise or sign on the dash of the seatbelt not being plugged in. But put something heavy enough on the drivers seat, the bell starts ringing, that 's why i pointed it out earlier. maybe they realised later on they could do it with just the seatbelt buckle, but mine has the wiring and the occupancy sensor in the seat. I wouldn't have pointed it out otherwise. Unlike most i have one of the first b7's it litterally came out the factory like that. the seats haven't been swapped over as i thought in the beginning as i ran the codes on the first page of the owners manual to find the complete spec. (it even shows up correctly in the MYAUDI app)

anyways... i'm not going to have this conversation of it having the occupancy sensor in the driver seat or not, mine clearly does... it also has the exact same wiring cables in both passenger and drivers seat looms. And point in case if i put anything passed 3 kg in the drivers seat and start the car the bell starts ringing.

I must say I've always experienced the same as Northpole in my car too: put something heavy on the passenger seat without the seatbelt connected and you get an audible seatbelt warning; as you do when a passenger forgets to put their seatbelt on too. Maybe this has to do with the airbag deactivation switch (atctivated by the car key) in the glovebox? Not all cars came with it; only those I believe with ISOFIX all round? I changed my whole glovebox recently for one with a CD changer binnacle and that didn't. I had to swap the switch over from my old one, pushing out the cutaway that had never been used.

my car does have ISOFIX and this may well be the difference of having the seat occupancy sensor in the drivers seat too. I haven't looked any further into it as it is what it is.

Today was the first real heavy rain / wet weather test in the allroad with the new 20" alloys and tires and I'm very impressed, it handled faultlessly.
I opted for something different tyrewise this time round and I have to say it was a great choice and very surprising given its not one of the bigger brands.

Kumho Ecsta Sport PS72,

They were my choice this time and were excellent in the dry, and now also in the wet, top marks Kumho.:thumbs up:

Also , ive found my B7 replacement.
It's taken a while, a lot of searching, and a lot of contemplating to decide if it's a wise move.
So ive put a deposit down to secure it until the guy is ready to complete the deal, happy days.
Those who know me will have a good idea of what it is.:thumbs up:

I had a strong feeling you would be looking for the right one of these :) An Avant I expect? Can't wait to see it and well done! Of course it's going to make it pretty embarrasing to post anything about my modest barge after that, but I will continue to read with interest lol. They are definitely modern classics that will only appreciate.:thumbs up:

The whole RS history is very interesting. I would say the RS2, based on the 80/B4 Avant platform in 94/5 was the first real Audi as we understand the brand today.

Well the car is in the paint shop again! Went to a lovely hotel in Shropshire over the festivities; parked the car carefully in what I thought was a safe spot; came out in the morning and big white scrape on the NS bumper. Fortunately this time (only time ever) the decent fella left a note and is covering it and fortunately it's the opposite side to the recent similar paint job. We got snow here overnight too, so I had to scrape the car off and I nearly couldn't get up the hill; traction off just about did it.

That was very honest, so many people just drive off!
Are you running your PS 5's yet?

Yes it was Matt, the only time it's happened. Yes to the Michelins - great quiet tyre - great in the wet but near useless in ice; that I knew going into them, they're obviously a summer tyre. I thought about cross climates up front but they wear quickly. Having to change now was bad timing though in that decision. There's a steep hill coming out of my drive. I literally inched up it. Then I skidded past a GPO van fortunately. Ok after that. Funny thing was about 5 miles out there was no ice or snow, just round me.

I think a lot of non-climate tyres are bad in the ice. I remember 3 or 4 years ago I was running Bridgestone Potenza RE070 on the Subaru. Very broad blocked tyres which were 49% track and 51% road which made them just about road legal. A summer tyre if ever there was one. It's what they and the Nissan GTR's got at the factory.

Very sticky compound etc, Bridgestone don't make them anymore. But man they were terrible in snow and ice, literally like ski's or 4 totally bald tyres. I've never been so petrified in any other car as I was driving home from work that night, I was causing traffic / frustration behind me as I had to go so slow.

I run PS 5 all round on that now, but for ice etc I'll probably just use the Golf. Michelin Primacy 4 on that, lasting very well, nice soft ride too.

Great tyres! Fortunately where I live in an old shared mansion block, we have a long steep drive (a nightmare 3 winters ago) that has roadsalt bins; so with the help of our gardener I shovelled salt all over it. Nice easy drive up now:thumbs up:

I can recommend Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 which I've had on my previous (FWD) car and current on my (AWD) S3 8V. Regards with a lot of snow from Sweden

Thanks Rambo91. They are a great tyre but unfortunately here will see little use as a winter tyre. I have a spare set of wheels and they are available in 235/40R18 95V XL, so I could get a couple shod for the front, but pricy for period and the amount of snow/ice we're likely to get here; it's already started to disappear and there's been only one night of snow (there is more to come though this week). Michelin Cross Climates were pretty good when I had them on before; not absolutely stellar but much better than PS's. Happy New Year in Sweden!

After a very pleasant and quiet Christmas, my next task is to replace the v6 tdi valve stem oil seals in the allroad, should keep me busy for a few days , also be fitting a pair of new rear airbags.
It's just like life with the old b7 , just a bit bigger..lol

new rear airbags at 140 can be ha at 140 each... they are the same bags used on all the audi cars that have air suspension.

Is it burning oil; misfiring or poor power; Rob? I've rarely heard of this being needed on a diesel, because of the low rpm. Oil usage from the a worn turbo or the closed ventilation system on the otherhand can often be a source of increased consumption.

No, it's a small puff of blue smoke on start up after sitting for a few days, clears within a couple of seconds max , classic valve stem seal leakage in my book, otherwise no smoke at all or after retstarts .

The pair of new rear airbags arrived yesterday courtesy of Autodoc, who seem to have upped the game on the delivery front with another very quick delivery.

The rear airbags are not that costly, its the front and rear damper assembly that hurts one's wallet.:grumpy:

Fingers crossed - I'm sure it'll pass with flying colours, all the work you've done.

This time a few days ago I was not a happy bunny. The snow made me stuck twice in our car park on the summers. It ripped off the plastic undeshields too, and I only found out too late the tow hook is reverse thread lol. Anyway it was booked in today for some suspension work, and I'd bought new undershields. What a transformation. My mechanic - I didn't understand him at the time - renewed the front completely, including the bolts from hell, and supplied ARB drop links. I wish I'd done this all a lot sooner; the handling, the noise over holes and bumps, totally transformed. I thought the shocks were tired - there were no creaks but all the rattles gone from before; that I've lived with since almost when I got her. The new undertrays are noise insulated too so a noticeable added refinement. And most importantly a new snub nose mount has made all the difference to clutch smootheness; in my case it really is noticeable. All that for £180 (undertrays and drop links I supplied) - I couldn't have done it cheaper myself, but then he's a pal as well - an ex Rolls Royce mechanic, who picks up and drops off too!

I'm waitng on confirmation of a really big long term contract starting end of March. If that comes off, then I will make another big trip down to Southern Spain before then, maybe Feb; maybe take in Germany as well as France this time. I'm going to film this one; since it's my job. And who knows maybe I hit 300K too; or near enough as damnit. Everything sorted now bar the tracking, later this week - she's certianly in a lot better fettle when I last did this and I'm longing for that open road; so fingers crossed.:thumbs up:
