What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

So finally got round to doing a few bits, heko wind deflectors, blacked the grill out (my few attempts with plastidip didn't get the results others seemed to so went standard spraypaint), debadged, cupra R splitter, bit of red-carbon vinyl on the interior, subtle vinyl on the alloys, S-line type caps & thorough clean inside & out. Just need to get spacers ordered and windows tinted next.

So this was last nights escapade.... saw a nice example on here of someone's orange engine cover (yes, i know i need to find a logo to go in there too - it's on the list).

Gave the old bus a shampoo and set, made some adjustments to my exhaust tips and they are nearly how I want them , and , i'm going to replace the vacuum pump seal this evening....oh the joys of B7 ownership.

Found a vacuum line coming off my wastegate that had some rips in it from the heat of the manifold. Hopefully this solves my P0234 overboost code and maybe my P0299 boost leak. I’m not really too worried about the boost leak code but the overboost was driving me crazy for like a month or two now.

Also, I got these little winglets and I don’t know whether I like it or not. I’m gonna put them on for now and give it a few days. Let me know what y’all think. A good friend says, “no, too busy”. But I’m trying to give them a chance. Normally I wouldn’t care what others think but I’m at a fork right now.

Ripped out the vacuum pump this morning to do a rebuild, was planned for last night but after watching 3 car SOS episodes decided to do it today.
Pretty straight forward job and not too long, changed all three O-rings just in time really as it was leaking a lot and the outlet seal had all but fallen apart.

So that's another job off the never ending list , hopefully no more oil leaks down the back of the engine , and the engine has lost that really irritating rattle that comes from the vacuum pump when things get tired and worn, all in a very productive morning.

Not sure on the winglet's Edgar, one of those things that may grown on one over a few days.
Maybe it's the mudflaps aswell that sort of clash with them, anyway it is all down to personal preference chap so what ever work's for you is all that really matters.
Good work all the same.

I agree that the mud flaps might be what’s throwing it off. I’ll have to take them off and see what they look like without.

Washed the old B7 bus today - so of course it rained just after I was finished.
BUT more importantly, took my old mans TDi 130 (same engine as my B6 A4) Sport Passat for an MOT & it passed!
Didn't expect it to as it was smoking horrendously on full throttle a couple of weeks ago.
I bought some fuel cleaner/additive that is made by a company local to me & after a few tanks of Best Quality diesel with that in, the smoking is drastically reduced - in fact it passed the emissions on the first pass with the best figure it has ever had!!
The product I used is called 'FuelTone' & I reckon it's better than the 'Forte' additive I've used in the past (which the trade recommend).
Not sure if it's available UK wide but I highly recommend it if you can find it. :thumbs up:

Looks smart, but i think im with Rob on the winglets. The side skirts however look trick, they'd maybe go nice with my cupra lip

Rob do you have a link to the rebuild kit you used?

How easy is the pump to remove and fix?

I need to do mine.

First time removal can be a pain , but i have removed it before so knew excatly how to tackle it.
Its not difficult , more awkward really , but i have a nice mini ratchet spanner with torx bit which is ideal , the only real pain of the 3 bolts is the one underneath which hold,s an earth plate onto the pump, still doable though.
I took me less than 10 mins to get the pump off including moving the harness out the way etc, and then a bit longer to refit due to that darn awkward screw/bracket.
15 mins to fully clean and then fully overhaul the 3 seal in the pump etc, so i'd say doable in 1 hour easy.

this is the awkward torx screw and bracket.

above is the really handy tool I used on both vac pump jobs and the water union replacement, really make the job a lot easier given the lack of space to work in.

Took the mudflaps off today. The look is growing on me. I’ll have to give it some more time and see it from more of a distance to really make up my mind.

yep , miles better without those mudflaps …...looks more of a natural flowing style.

Well I started off the weekend intending on getting this lot on the car and get the geometry done so I'm all ready for winter. That's a couple of new rack arms and track rod ends, four Goodyear eagle F1s and a pair of springs I took off my breaker to get rid of the saggy bum look its been rocking. The breaker is a 2wd S line Avant and since I couldn't see the colored markings on the S4 springs I assumed they had been replaced with aftermarket springs so it was worth a punt. Dragged myself out of bed and down to work Saturday morning only to find the compressor chose that day to refuse to start which ruled out most of the work I had planned, cant blow tyres up with no air and our geometry ramp wont come down without it either so that left just the springs. Pulled one out to find it was original and very different in the thickness and also winding of the coil too. Decided to try the ones I had as a very short term solution as one of mine came out in two pieces so they had to be better than that. It now sits level but the spring rates are probably all over the place but I Have the correct ones on the way.

Not the best picture but there should be a little air between the top of the tyre and arch, at least on a car running stock suspension.

So after that almost complete bust I decided to do a little job today to brighten up the cockpit. Having had the later cars with chrome on the switches I think it lifts the dash a little and ties in nicely with the strip on the bottom of the nav. Nice easy job, pull the nav out and the trim over the buttons and there is a little access hole above to pop the row of switches and cupholder retainers from. Then bosh in the new ones and you're done.

What I didn't allow for when I bought the cup holder was finding this attached to the back of the original as its illuminated. I popped this into the holder on the back of the new cup holder but found out its missing a few bits internally to transmit the light to the symbol on the front so ended up with a kitchen table full of parts as pictured below.

You can just make out the clear Perspex bit in the middle of the above pic missing from the one below. It just needed this swapping over then I could fit that front cover to my original cup holder which has another piece in it which is required.

The finished product which ties nicely to my steering wheel with silver audio button surrounds and tip paddles. Next on the list for the interior is to replace this carbon trim which is cracked, bugs the life out of me! I have a replacement but it sustained a bit of damage in the post albeit in a much less prominent place and I have been doing a little repair to it but I'm not quite happy with it yet even though its tucked right up behind the steering wheel. Frustrating to say the least but once its fitted and I'm not staring at it I'll soon forget about it.

Looking good dude! I thought you liked the pilot sports? I feel i need an illuminated cup holder

We could trade grilles if you want Rob, still have your old one but I fitted a proper Black surround so it wouldn't chip but I want to keep the chrome on my S4 so want a satin silver surround.

Pressed metal plates got installed on the B7 this evening... and Nathan, I wish I’d bought a black one... yours looks awesome mate

Spent a wet evening getting halfway into my cam chain tensioner replacement, no issues so far and everything came off as expected, cant deal with the adjuster bolt until tomorrow when tps get the VAG tool.
On first inspections though the current tensioner and chain look fine and the tensioner works as it should , so very possibly I could have just left it alone but since I have a new one i'll fit it .
Cam follower looks to be a bit worn for a BUL item , i'll pickup one tomorrow aswell .

so that's all for today.

And front end is slowly coming together
Gloss Grill surround, think i'll gloss the logo to match
Need to find DTM valance (or make one) for twin exhaust.

Irritatingly a fox bent the splitter a few weeks back and I've just noticed the bend marks
Also installed a HUD system (whoever specc'd this car in year-dot chose nice hardware but rubbish software/interior)
