Just been quoted:

£47 replacement wipers - smearing
£165 replacement air filter
£464 service cost
£927 replacement front brake disks+pad ... currently at 90% worn

Is it me or is that an outrageous amount of money for new front brakes? I'd understand if they were ceramic but they are not.

Do I have any alternatives for finding a cheaper option?

Damn i would have a heart attack! You could reduce costs on the brakes by going to an independent specialist like AMD, Your in reading so not to far away from many places.

Again they can do the air filter for you and even the service. If you want the audi stamp get them to solely do the service and filter and have the rest carried out by an independent specialist.

The wipers are just outrageous though!

You'll get wipers cheap off ebay, from an Audi garage, fit them yourself, it's a doddle. Air filter would be cheaper elsewhere I'd imagine, and the service cost would almost certainly be cheaper, although it does depend on what's being replaced under the service. As for the front brakes, good luck! Brake discs on the RS4 and 6 are monsterously expensive, and genuine pads aren't exactly cheap either, seen them fetch as much as £1000 for discs and £250 for pads, and that's just for parts!

wipers and air filter will be **** easy to source on ebay and then fit yourself

Brakes could probably be sourced via ebay or a VAG specialist

Service cost depends on whether or not you want the Audi stamp or just a general garage stamp

TBH Alex comes with territory on these cars unfortnately mate, been there myself when running a B6 S4, but doesnt that run 2 filters & based on hourly rates which are what £100 per hour or more in some spots around country, plus oil, maybe plugs, doesnt seem expensive overall when using dealers.

Now of course indys will be cheaper thats fact, but labour yes, parts minorly, but will indy use the premium parts you want or cheap tat, thats the risk you take as much as you maybe trust them huh.

Brakes are massive on that car, so I dont think its unreasonable if thats fitted, my s3 had 10 pot tarox thats discs were £500 alone, so based on that I'd say its reasonable.

Wipers, nah thats not rich, look at it like this most people running these cars wont do themselves, cant expect a dealer to do for free, so what 10-20 minutes to remove/refit, test, works out about right.

i work at a peugeot main dealer..

if it makes you feel any better...

on certain models (with the flat aero style blades) there up to 40pounds each!

you get .1 to fit them (each) which is in english 6minutes.

i think fitting is around 17pounds a wiper...

but the disc and pad price is ruthless! if you get stuck... i will get a trade price for you

It was a £75k car new, with 580bhp out of the box. As NHN says, the prices for running these cars are going to be expensive especially the brakes that have to stop 2 tonnes from potentially 200mph!!!

Ok dont get me wrong here as im not expert on the RS models but £165 for an Air filter?

You could buy your own, probably even a better one for a fraction of that cost!

I would hope for that cost it was designed and engineered by NASA and self cleans.

£1000 for brakes and pads is also very expensive, again you could easily source cheaper, superior parts yourself although as many have said it still wont be cheap as its a ****** quick car, im suprised there not ceramic for that price though

Replacing Ceramics costs almost as much as having them added on from factory, I think the B7 RS4 replacements cost around 4.5k to replace. Ludicrous money!

Turned out £165 was for 2 air-filers (the RS6 has 2 at the front).

Yes, an £85k Audi is obviously going to be expensive to run but my main beef is that it is WAYYY more expensive to run/maintain than my Porsche which cost a lot more. Since when did owning an Audi become more costly than owning a supercar Porsche?

The running costs are the only downside to owning an RS6 though - other than that it is AWESOME at pretty much anything you throw at it.

I work for Audi in parts and if you like I could get all that with about 20% off if that helps mate? The brakes are ****** cheap compared to ceramics. 1 disc will set you back £2500! Yes you read it correctly! I know its expensive but at the end of the day they never fade and will probably last the lifetime of the car! If you want me to price up all the parts you want I'll do that tomorrow

Thanks for the kind offer but I was forced to get everything done the day after my first post - as we were going away on holiday and needed the car fully fit to get there.

I have ceramics on my Porsche and after 3 years, 22k, and one track day they are 50% worn. So have a while to save up to replace those when they go!

Thats ok. If you ever need anything I'll more than welcome to help out if you like. I must say Im very jealous of you. I think personally the Audi RS6 avant is the ultimate family car without doubt. One minute you can be cruising down the Autobahn at 200mph on the way to the Nurburgring and the next going on a family holiday with the mrs, 3 kids and a bootfull of luggage!

Surprised Audi is costing more than the Pork for servicing. We were considering a Cayman S instead of another S3 and on owner forums many were saying the dealer fixed price servicing prices were 'make believe' ( they always worked in additionals).

Hell of a car though so it's a case of taking the rough with the smooth.

Their work rates are cheaper, use OEM parts and don't work against the clock to get the work done. I use TTS Roadsport in Bedford for my servicing and other work. Enthusiasts recognize that a specialist stamp in the log book is worth more than a dealer stamp

Too right, i use VAGTECH in milton keynes, these guys are great and also former VAG/AUDI/VW mechanics
