Hey all, thanks in advance for your help!
Please don't tell me I am stupid because I already know I am :(

I have managed to spill a drink onto the centre console. If your interested in knowing how I did this, I had a drink on the dash, and drove off forgetting it was there.
It has appeared to have damaged the head unit (Concert II). The errors are:
*When withdrawing the key from ignition, the stereo does not turn itself off
* The illuminated buttons on the concert II are no longer lit up
* The steering wheel controls no longer work (volume up/down, changing radio channels), and when calling someone via bluetooth, it calls the contact but the radio does not cut out to be able to hear the phone call.

Touch-wood all the radio functions still work, but i've ejected my CDs just incase the head unit packs in completely!

Bit of a shot in the dark I know, but I am hoping someone may have an idea as to what specifically has been damaged, whether it be the whole head unit, or something connecting to the head unit?

I've had a google and couldn't find anything related.
I've ordered removal keys so I can have a look behind the stereo but I very much doubt I'll be able to do anything by then.

Any suggestions/help will be greatly appreciated!

From a very gutted Alex.

Auto electrician or retrimmer might be able to help you

Someone that regularly dismantles car interiors would be a good bet

Thanks for your reply.
I don't suppose you know any around the Cardiff area?

A lot will depend on what the drink was ( speaking as the father of 2 sons who have a habit of getting phones 'damp') if it's just water leave ignition off for a while, hopefully it'll dry off and be OK, any sugar based drink, including fruit juice, is not good news.

Hey Steve,
Unfortunately it was a large Coke from McDonald's (and to think at the order point I was debating a bottle of water!)

I had to drive home and left the radio on, so we'll see what happens tomorrow morning ey?

I do have a Sony double din taken from my previous car. I was holding off putting it in because I didn't want an after market look, I don't have time to install, I could do without the cost of fascia's and patch leads, and I'm not sure how complicated wiring it into the standard Bose set up is?
Looks like this might happen sooner than I'd liked!

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry no only in the Manchester area, if you call your local Audi main dealer service department they will probably recommend someone, or try an Audi independent, who will most likely recommend someone too...good luck with it, and keep us posted

Might be worth striping everything out and cleaning the contacts with meths, pure guess though, best of luck.

The quicker you extract the Concert the better. Try an airgun or compressed gas aerosol to blow the worst of the moisture out then stick it in the airing cupboard to dry out overnight. I don't hold out much hope as the Coke has probably gummed up the CD mechanism. If that fails then a used Concert from Ebay as above is the cheapest fix

Hey Steve,

You should be ok then, seeing as it's all watered down s**t anyway:sadlike:

Thanks for your replies guys!
Just to update you all, there has been no change as of yet. I'm just glad it was only the head unit affected, and not the heating controls... Now that would have been a real headache in the middle of winter!!

The head unit is actually the Symphony 6 disc changer, and not the concert.
I'm seriously thinking of fitting my Sony double din instead, buying the fascia, wiring looms etc, as I don't see the point in repairing the unit or buying a new one.
I've done this before on previous cars, and my electrical knowledge is probably at an acceptable standard! And I am slightly Canbus aware.
But my concerns are:
* I have the BOSE speakers/sub fitted, do I need to consider anything when fitting an aftermarket HU?
* I definitely want to have the steering wheel controls working again, which brand of patch leads are recommended?
* How do I go about finding an ignition live? Is there one on the loom, or will I need to source one from the cig lighter, fuse box etc...

Just to clarify, I have the A3 Sportback (facelift?) model, 2012... I'll post a picture in a minute when I work out how lol...

Carefree69, it appears that last night McDonald's had their coke syrup working on full whack :( lol

Thanks again for your help guys

Heres my baby!

Just a little update for you,
Yesterday I was sat in my car, and all the radio issues fixed themselves! Everything worked for about 15 minutes, but then the issues came back :(
I think regardless I'm still going to replace the HU, I've enquirer about a fascia and the wiring looms, and it'll cost £85

Alex

Get that sony one in it looks nice! Just try taking the old one out cleaning the connections and leave it in somewhere hot in the house airing cupboard etc then try it again

Or pour water over it to try and wash the Coke out of it (don't do that bit it's a joke I accept no responsibility if it breaks it haha)

Yeah I've decided to go for the Sony one now... It cost me just under £400 a few years ago, and right now it's just sat in a box wasting away in the attic!
I can change the blue lights on the side to red aswell so it'll match the white and red Audi look... Kinda!
Just gotta order the fascia, wiring loom (for Bose setup) and steering wheel controls patch leads, sorting that out tomorrow but they probably won't arrive at the shop untill after Christmas now :(

I'll do what you say then send you the bill ;) haha!
