Hello all, just looking for some advice/info. I have a 1.8t quattro (180bhp k03) and its rear silencer has snapped off the pipe. I've had it welded but it's broken in a different spot soon after. The garage has two options for me on a budget, a rear silencer from a 1.6 fsi or a straight pipe from the centre box. I am also getting a 3" decat downpipe fitted at the same time in either case. How restrictive will the 1.6 exhaust be, will it restrict the gains made from the 3"downpipe massively? I'm trying to avoid an overly droning exhaust. I could get a 2nd hand s3 exhaust but it will take longer to get hold of and I want to fix it soon. I've attached a diagram of the 1.6 exhaust.

The garage is mainly an exhaust shop, the guy doing the work seem to be sure he could make it fit with some fabrication. I guess the main issue would be where the squashed part is on the original that avoids the drive shaft area. I cant seem to find the accurate 1.6fsi exhaust bore size. I know the 1.8tqs exhaust is 2.25". If the 1.6 exhaust was around 2" would this make a lot of difference on a stock map? I guess a smaller than oem exhaust cant be any better.

If they are an exhaust shop then surely they can find something for the car rather than cobble a lesser models one on...

FWIW the 8L S3 exhaust will fit with the S3 hangers but you will need to cut out a section of the rear valence and bumper for the tail pipes

Or go to an exhaust place that can make you something custom and proper... as while they may know how to sell and lash exhausts together they don't appear to know much about cars

<tuffty/>

I bought a non-OEM rear silencer for my A3, was about 100 euros... was easy to fit, just cut the original pipe in roughly the right location, slide the new one over, clamp it, and attach the new silencer to the original hangers

"they don't appear to know much about cars"

lol

I'm no expert but....
isn't the S3 Quattro exhaust designed up to 300 BHP and the 1.6 about 90 BHP and you have a 190 BHP 1.8T with a 3 inch downpipe, bigger than a 2.75inch standard S3 downpipe ? how is all that air going to fit out that little exhaust?
