Does anyone have a method or screen shots etc of the factory procedure for removing and replacing the a/c compressor on an A4 B7 3.0TDI quattro engine?

Do you need the lock carrier (front end removal) parts?

Oh and only a Safe Handling of Refrigerants Certificate holder can empty the system.

Last weekend I got my system de-gassed at a local garage and then replaced the compressor with a new one following the guide posted by TYphoon GB, thanks for this all went well, bit of a job but got it sorted!

I need to get the system re gassed, can I do this with the gas bottles and valve adapter (which I already have for topping up my old cars) that you can buy in Halfords or should I go and get the system re-gassed at the garage that de-gassed it with a proper AC machine?

Hi all, I know this post is old but I still have my Audi A4 3.0 Tdi Convertible Quattro from 2007 and need to replace the aircon compressor. I have been told that not only do I need to remove the front bumper as the guide in this post from Typhoon GB mentions but I also have to remove the engine inlet manifolds to gain access from above. Anyone got experience of this or have been able to replace the compressor without removing the inlet manifold which apparently is the most tricky/time consuming piece ? Thanks

IIRC when I replaced my compressor I may have needed to remove the intake flap manifold which is easy to access from above the engine can’t exactly remember tbh…access to remove and fit the comp unit is from under the engine just maybe need access to a bolt from above. I do remember it being fairly straight forward just takes a bit of time to jack the car get the bumper off, engine tray, remove the parts etc as access is tight from underneath on a driveway.

Most important thing is that if your compressor is worn/damaged and has spit metal into the system, you need to flush the pipes and other parts before replacing the compressor. Otherwise the new compressor will chew up the old metal bits and get stuck and break. Found that out the hard way

Thanks TurboJeff - I’m told it is the valve in the compressor which has failed so fingers crossed no metal swarf.
I guess then I’ll need to source some replacement manifold gaskets before I start ?

Whatever part I removed I didn’t replace a gasket as I don’t think there was one.
