Fitted some AP coilovers last night bought from another forum member, got a few adjustments to make and get the height exactly where i want it, but had a good blast over some nice moor roads this morning to the malton specialist cars big breakfast meet which was a good chance to put the brakes through there paces and they also performed excellently. Not one bit of fade and the pedal feel is 100 times better than standard.
Oh and they look sexy

Cant fault these coilovers for there price tbh! Had KW and GAZ previously and these are abit on the softer side, but not harsh or bouncy in anyway. Hold the road really well
Cant wait to get the H&R anti-roll bars on now to just firm it up that bit more!

Alright mate, mine are actually 19's although im sure 18's do fit as other people run them. I ordered through demon tweeks as i got a wheel/tyre deal but they had to get the wheels made and direct from TD. Was supposed to be 2-3 weeks but it ended up being 6-7 as they had a problem in paint or something

Oh yea, I did see that yours were 19" I sort of questioned myself a bit over going for 18's after I saw yours. I was worried that 19" would look to big but they look spot on.

Ah ok I better get them ordered asap then!

And the finishing touch! Heading off to Germany tomorrow evening so just in the final stages of prepping the car. Will be visiting the Nurburgring on sunday! Woo hoo

Well i made it back from the little trip in one piece, did just over 850miles in total.
Nürburgring was an amazing experience surrounded by some very nice cars, i did 3 laps in total before heading over to Amsterdam and having a little play with an SLS on the autobahn which was alot closer than expected! Hahaha
Cant wait to go back next year now. The car performed great on track, the AP Coilovers have really supprised me, there a little on the soft side for track but ideal for day to day driving. But im still yet to fit my H&R ARB's which should help reduce alot of body roll on track etc. Had a chance to test out the brakes too which didn't disappoint in the slightest! Money well spent in my eyes, it felt like a different car compared to last time i was on track with the stock S3 brakes, they didn't inspire confidence at all!

Lovely car mate great work, alacantara isn't my cup of tea but never has been in any combination, everything else is spot on!

Glad to see you're enjoying it and using it well!

Cheers mate, yeah its down to the individual i suppose, for me the interior is my favourite part of the car, love everything being soft to touch instead of the hard plastic, makes the car feel alot more expensive and exotic

Yer I can understand that actually - to be honest I've never had a car with it, or even been in one that I recall haha, maybe it's just pictures not doing it justice!

Yesterday I finally got the chance to fit my H&R anti roll bars, took about 2.5 hours in total laid on my back on the garage floor.
The rear one was very simple to do but the front was a fair bit more involving and requires alot more bits to be taken off before you can get at it but got there in the end! Front set at soft and the rear set to hard.
First impressions were strange, the car felt totally different and i wasn't quite sure if i liked it, after about 20-30 minutes of driving and getting used to the way the car reacts its really grown on me and the car as a whole feels more connected and feels like it corners as one rather than the front turning first then the rear following it, the understeer has been eliminated and the back end is alot more keen to come round. id say the ARB's made more of a difference to how the car drives and corners than the coilovers and anti-lift kit combined tbh. Another worth wile upgrade!

Great mod indeed! I'm still getting used to it, but would never go back - so much more front end grip, it almost defies laws of physics :)

A trip to the ring is definitely on the cards next year for me :)

Well something abit different happend yesterday! Car got a full colour change along with the wheels. To help protect the paint through winter and turn the s3 into full stealth.

That finish looks superb! I assume that this is Plasti Dip rather than a wrap?

It is indeed plastidip! Alot cheaper than a wrap, car and wheels cost me £450
Im well impressed with the finish I thought it would of been orange peely but it's actually really smooth. Make a nice change walking out to see it on the drive now feels like a new car. Then when i get bored and peel it off to see that sprint blue it will be like another new car haha

I agree! It's a nice change and can always be reverted without too much effort. I like the idea of Plasti Dip - offers some protection for paintwork and if one panel gets a little tatty, you can always redo just that panel.

Out of interest, did you do this yourself? What was the rough cost if you don't mind me asking?

Wheels looks great too!

No a company near me in leeds called original uk dipz did it, cost £450 for car+wheels

That looks the nuts mate, love the Matt finish

Plugs seem to get forgotten about relatively cheap to replace too

Well the time came to remove the plastidip, get that sprint blue sparkling again ready for some sunshine, what a PITA it was to remove! Its been applied abit thin so instead of peeling of in one nice section it kept tearing... Had to order some dip disolver to get rid off the fuzz left round the edges but the paint is all good underneath which is a bonus!

Contemplated leaving it like this... Urban camo YO!

Also set out on curing a missfire the car has had which is progressively getting worse, changed the plugs/coils already so next was the injector... So removed the inlet manifold to get at them and cleaned all my valves while i was at it.
They wernt bad for 70k miles i didnt think, but there alot better now.
Also orderd the runner flap delete kit so waiting for that to arive before i put it back together and see if the missfire has been cured.

Heres a quick before and after of the valves

Funny you should mention that.. No the clutch is still standard but it just started to slip last week, it lasted 6000 miles on stage 2+ which isn't bad at all, some people's slip straight from day one after going 2+

Good all round, especially the valves, which weren't bad before, and really clean after.

Mine got horribly gunked up very quickly between cleaning/blasting,so I guess it is related to boost levels and blowby(!) overall.

awesome car mate! Sprint blue was my first choice, but couldn't find a semi clean car.

Out of interest, who did the valve clean?

I did it myself, i used brake and clutch cleaner and filled the ports when valves are shut, then let it soak in and scrape away with some lolly sticks, then use tissue to soak up the brake cleaner, and repeat that untill they were clean

Well the injectors went away to be ultrasonic cleaned and tested today, 1 and 2 are fine number 3 is fully goosed not flowing or spraying well at all, and number 4 is leaking slightly, spraying fine for now... So this was some good knews as its identified that the injector was at fault for the missfire i had which i knew was on cylinder 3.
while there out im going to change number 4 as I don't want that to cause another missfire in a few thousand miles.

Also got the RS4 FPRV fittted up, as its a whole lot easier when the manifold is off

d7ce5ce344a7b83736bf547d7d059519.jpg

Big difference ey!.... Or not haha but every little helps

Here is the manifold with the APR RFD installed

And into the bin goes the runner flap and other horsepower killers

1142e8ea7f080dcbd84f7e635a84f70a.jpg

Then cleaned all the gunk out the inlet manifold to get that air flowing faster before it reaches the ports

And after

Hopefully get it back running one night next week once the injector arrives, then get it in for a sachs organic clutch with SMFL! Happy days

How hard is it to do the front arb.

Harder than the rear, more things have to come off and drop the subframe etc and then just fettle it out, its just nuts and bolts at the end of the day though. Just takes more time

Well the second injector showed up on monday so i got them fitted on the evening, getting the inlet manifold off/back on is not a pleasant job at all but the money saved rather than getting someone else to do it is all worth it haha!
Here is a picture showing the amount fuel the injectors were flowing
25054bc10a4e166b4bb1c1c400e0d513.jpg

As you can see number 3 was right down and 4 was slightly down and also leaking under pressure,
2d7abfd2f887a33144fb0502c4fd2aab.jpg

3fe97ac6d7d21b46a4bb0cf5b1aa5cf9.jpg

So i got it all back together fired it up and its the best its ever ran since the day i got it, no more missfire when cold/on idle and its so smooth now when pulling away and just driving along in general

So when that was all boxed up i pulled the car out the garage and blasted the rest of the plastidip off with some 'dip dissolver' from the states
Left it on my wheels for now to have the blue/black combo for a while, I prefer the silver so ill just wait a while untill i get sick of it then blast that off also haha!

Good results after a lot of hard work.

Those injector flow benches are a mixed bag......certainly for showing up problems like yours, they work well, but for overall flow levels, unless run at the pressures that a DI system runs at(130-140bar) the overall results are inaccurate.

Yeah it's impossible to get anywhere near that pressure think this was 10bar or somethings, it positively identified the injector wasn't spraying properly though which is all i needed
