Best intercooler upgrade?

@ S3_Mat

I was thinking(not that i do that often...)....had you considered the APR 2867 kit,if you're sure you aren't going beyond 500bhp?

It would leave you a little short of 500bhp,but it's a good kit,you can use the HPA manifold and WMI with it,and it IS fast.

Have you spoken to DeckedS3?

I'll Def be stopping then :) if I put parts on "just in case" I'll be forced to get the maximum by just knowing there is more hiding under the bonnet lol

The price of the APR kit + ancillaries + mapping + labour + internals is close to the kit price of the NRS offering. Perhaps a little less, but still wrung out to the ragged edge of the turbo and the top end is lacking compared to the 30 series even one with a smaller A/R.

It seems you need WMI and 99 RON etc to get the most out of it. The amount of torque it produces on 99 RON with WMI would be borderline on stock rods and my logic is if you have to open it up to put rods/and pistons in you may as well do that and run a slightly bigger turbo which isn't struggling with sustaining boost levels at the top.

Statllers are achieving 550hp without WMI using modified S3/Golf R injectors and admittedly some custom parts APR can't provide - It is pretty impressive really. I draw the line at a custom ecu and 8 injectors. I just feel for the money the APR kit is, it's not as attractive as it was when it was first released. Back then it was pretty much the only off the shelf hardware + software kit.

I haven't spoken to DeckedS3 directly - But I've seen threads and that hes happy with the performance since the DSG swap and custom DSG map, No doubt the APR kit is fast I just want something in between that and yours and the Nortech kit with a 30 series of some description fits the bill nicely.

Mine never sees the bills.
My best results were the Syvecs which never saw the light of day,and a pair of Krell amplifiers I bought some yrs ago.

To be fair, she doesn't go short of anything due to my own excesses.

Haha fair play. What do you do for a living then Alex?

Agreed.

The APR kit does rely on WMI etc to max it out,but it would be expected running the smaller turbo.

I've seen the modified S3/Golf R inejctors, and some pretty extravagant claims in terms of bhp/flow capacity, but as 550bhp is just about do-able on RS4 injectors, there is no reason why modified S3 injectors couldnt do the same.

It's good that the 8P is snot only still being supported, but more and more kits are coming to the market, not only from Nortech, but from the likes of IE etc as well.
With both of those you know you'll get good quality parts, made to last.

When we first got going on this there was either the now defunct BSH kit(with all the problems modifying it for RHD) or the ATP kit I eventually bought, but even that had fitting issues, and that was the market in total.

I'm sure you'll be very pleased with the Nortech kit,and with the level of support from the guys at Nortech themselves.

Having shifted to the Nortech kit,I wish that such quality was around a few yrs back, and we've pretty much stretched it to the limits that Nortech envisaged by fitting and running a 3582....they'd designed it with a 3576 in mind,so we added a bit,and used a Tial exhaust housing to be sure.

Hey mate no I didnt, I bought it from a private seller with just under 10k on the clock. Its a 2009 so MY09 would that be?

You must have a very early facelift model then - maybe they still fitted them for a while (nothings ever an exact science when it comes to model years).

Yeah that must be it. My car is 09 which was the very first of the facelifts as far as I know.

Weren't 58 plates facelift so after sept 08??
that's MY09. mine was built in may 2009 and it's MY09. after september 2009 i think it was MY10 (and that one had gloss black pillars, different/smaller mirrors etc.).

Confusing my09 built in 08? Lol

Laid down somewhere to mature perhaps?
Makes you wonder if/how long they sit somewhere mine registerd March 08 but could havebeen built in 07?and if there was a batch of 08 plates after Sept 08 that they sold off cheap ?

Hi guys I have standard S3 8P facelift with VWR racing intake custom exhaust and I think about DARKSIDE intercoller - is it worth buying?

My S3 at stage 2+ has a Wagner intercooler. Fit and forgot!
Compare the sizes between this and the Darkside.

I know the wagner is very good only darkside drew my attention because it is half cheaper and my friend has almost 400 horsepower in diesel and has been doing well for 3 years that's why I asked because maybe someone has already tried in s3?
DARKSIDE CORE SIZE:
610mm x 415mm x 55mm
WAGNER CORE SIZE:
610mm x 440mm x 65mm
