Hi Guys
I know its probably a very boring subject to some as I can see its been covered alot.
I'm after a pure and simple answer on exactly what i need and possibly links to the items.

My Flywheel is on the way out. My garage and have a hunch the car has a remap.
I want to go for an updrated one that will take upto stage 2+.

My garage has recommended SACHS.
Exactly which would you recommend, along with a clutch to go with?

Cheers.

Don't bother until the clutch starts slipping. My flywheel was knackered when removed but there was no sign of it until it was removed. Only reason it was checked was because the clutch was slipping

Depends on your power ambitions as to which clutch you get. I would look at it like this:

Stage 2+ without drag strip or launches: Sachs stage 2 organic with an OEM DMF. can hold in excess of 400ftlbs if broken in and not launched.

Stage 2+ with lauches, drag strip and track work - Sachs stage 2 organic with a steel SMF can hold up to 500ftlb if broken in there are people with big turbos using this with no problems

Anything above stage 2+ depends on your eventual build and power and how abusive you will be on the clutch. Options would be Sachs + SMF, Spec 2+ or 3+ both with SMF's. The latter rated to 575ftlbs if bedded in correctly whilst still having a marginally heavier pedal than stock.

I would stay away from the Stage 3 Sachs setup as it is a 6 puck plate, likewise any paddle clutch from spec or helix. SMF's may increase vibration at idle especially with the A/C on.

Thanks for the great advice.
Option one suits me down to the ground ! And after speaking to a friend with a mk6 gti with that setup, I'm going to try his out :)

I used a Sachs organic which served well until Stg 3 with 440lbs.

I now use a Spec Stg3+ and was one of the first here to do so and its still coping well at 540lbs.

sorry to hijack the thread but where is the best place to buy the sachs clutches? do we get a discount anywhere?

is there a cheaper clutch for say S3 stage 1 power only?
I have an A3 and wont be going over that sort of torque.

I have personally spent along time looking and trying various Clutches to find out what works best.. Its trying to find a happy medium between a clutch which will hold the power, NOT give you a left leg like Arnie and also doesnt rattle.. :)

If you just want a clutch for Fast Road and maybe the odd launch then the Sachs Organic Item will do the trick with a LUK flywheel

If your doing alot of track days or drive the car extremely hard then its best to go for the same clutch but with a SMF again Sachs

If my opinion these 2 are the ideal clutches depending on your needs..

Im running the Sachs Organic with OEM Luk DMF here buddy and no issues. I would def just double think whether you wanted to go down the SMF option, as if you have uprated engine mounts I think judder is significantly increased. In saying that - I am only repeating things I have heard on here, I have not personally drove a DMF back to back with an SMF car. In fact this is something I would love to try!
