Hej guys,

I just recently upgraded my summer tires on the A3.

As many might know, the A3 originally comes with 7,5x17" ET51 and 225x45-17 tires.
However I now got 8,5x18" ET45 and 225x40-18 tires.

My big worry all of a sudden is;
  1. Could this added rim-width give me problems the ball-bearings ?
  2. Should the car be aligned?

I've gone from 17" to 18". They've been on the car for 4-5 months and no problems what so ever. Also the 18" alloys are standard on SLine & S3 models so they'll never be an issue unless you put a crazy offset on. Which yours aren't.
It's worth getting them aligned as they will sit different to your 17s

Theres no problem with that change and no need to have the alignment checked as there won't be any difference.
You haven't altered the suspension so caster, camber, toe etc will all be the same as the difference in tyre width / wheel offset is minimal.
