Fitting wheels question

Hi, I'm sure this is a stupid question but here goes...

I've just had delivered a set of a4 sline 18" wheels for my a3. When I went to put the first one on there was what I would call 'play' where the wheel sat on the hub? So the alloy wheel holes did not sit flush with the bolt holes.

My question is.. Do the bolts themselves that take the weight of the car or is the wheel suppose to sit on the hub with the bolts just sercuring it in place?

I hope this makes sense to someone.

i assume they're from a b8? if so you need 57.1mm / 66.6mm spigot rings.

I'm guessing my a3 is the 57.1mm and the wheels I have I will check to make sure what size they are... See picture attached.

they're b8 wheels if they were advertised for a4. spigot rings will solve your problem.

All the spigot rings do is centralise the wheel while fitting, spigot rings should be fitted to ease the installation of a wheel they do not take any load directly, that is done through the hub face by the applied bolt torque. I don't bother with them myself. There is 700 lb ft spread over 5 bolts holding that wheel against the hub, that's all you need. Just make sure you fit the right bolts!

Spigot rings are used to centre the alloy wheel correctly and safely on the hub of your vehicle. If you have not installed spigot rings or have installed the wrong type of spigot rings your wheels will not be located 100% correctly on your car hub which will result in a vibration in your wheels when driving all problems can be solved matey

Good to know, thank you. I wasn't sure whether the spigot did more than just alined the wheel. I've already ordered a set of spigot rings, only £10 so I might as well wait until they arrive just to be safe.
