OK after a bit of heavy acceleration yesterday in the rain, caused the esp to cut in, This then left the esp light permanently on. This morning it had gone off then soon as i started up, the light came back on and the eml light came on.

Luckily a friend at work has a Foxwell Vag reader and so put it on and read the codes,
The first code which for some reason the picture i took of the screen didn't save but i remember it being found in the engine section of his device and it basically mentioned the MAF was faulty. Would this cause the esp light to come on and stay on? He reset it and turned the car over all was fine until it revved up then it came back on. along with the eml.

I'm guessing after a few google searches this is MAF related specially after the first code which i'm kicking myself for not getting the full numbers etc, I thought I may as well buy a new air filter and damn Im glad i did!! someone had fitted a Pipercross one which was absolutely full of sand and bugs, and leaf debris, it was totally minging to be honest. and The sand was on the top side of it so couldn't have been installed correctly!

Anyway ive fitted a new genuine air filter and thought i would would give the maf a try unplugged.

1) question what should happen if you run the car then unplug the maf?
2) What should happen if you run the car with maf unplugeed then plug it in?

Because basically what i discovered was absolutely nothing, it ran fine, it idled smoothly and still accelerated like before.

So ive ordered a new MAF should be here by next tuesday, Audi price £168 + vat as long as they have the old one if not £280.
Ive ordered ont from http://www.airmassmeterspecialists.co.uk/?gclid=COeqjfC3gsQCFcXItAodkl8AYA
Who supply Bosch MAFs (which mine is) exactly the same part number 0 208 218 067.
for £101.82.

So fingers crossed i can get this fitted and warning lights reset next week.

AS for the other codes that popped up:

18265 Load signal error message from ECU P1857 - static - No indication on display
Central conv
01134 Alarm horn (H1 2) - static- short circuit to earth
Navigatopn
00862 Antenna for GPS navigation (r50 r52)
02261 Media player position 1 (R118)-
16352 Control Module - static - Leaking

Anyone shed any light on these? Im guesseing the gps one is why my sat nav no longer works!

thanks for reading, and appreciate your thoughts

Dan

OK here we go.
P1857 code , means basically that your mates code reader is not interrogating deep
enough , its saying there is a code in the ECU that it cannot read, so you need vcds scan on it really.

01134 code, means alarm siren is F***ed , very common ive recently posted a thread on mine and what it lookes like when you open it, you need to replace it.see here! http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/alarm-siren-question.238868/

00862
Possible Causes
  • Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Antenna for GPS Navigation (R50/R52) faulty
  • Antenna for GPS Navigation (R50/R52) faulty
Possible Solutions
  • Check Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Antenna for GPS Navigation (R50/R52)
  • Check/Replace Antenna for GPS Navigation (R50/R52)
02261.
Possible Causes
  • Data Medium (CD/DVD) dirty
  • Data Medium (CD/DVD) inserted incorrecly
  • Data Medium (CD/DVD) faulty
Possible Solutions
  • Check Data Medium (D/DVD)
  • Insert Data Medium (CD/DVD) correctly
  • Replace Data Medium (CD/DVD
16352 . refers to ABS/ESP control module but you need to scan with VCDS to get a better diagnostic read out and then post results.

Well, I fitted my new MAF today, then after a drive of about 3 miles my esp light turns it self off, I continue around to my friends house who has the code reader, he's deleted the faults been for a drive and hey presto, alls good no lights, so I'm a happy man again. Who would of thought a dodgy MAF would cause esp/abs faults.

Dont think the MAF caused abs/esp fault, usually caused by hard braking or sometimes just a dirty abs sensor which has probably cleaned itself on the 3 mile run, glad you got it sorted.

Defo MAF fault, as it had been run back on forth to work several times at over 50 miles each time, before MAF replaced. While i had the old part still in my boot i put it back in with my friend as he thought the same he reset codes and then esp came back on with in 1 min on tick over! Put new one back in, removed codes as before and viola done 250 miles since and alls ok I'm glad to say..
