Nice one Rob....

Finally got around to install the FL steering wheel.. This is actually a 8W S4 wheel so it's not perforated, I couldn't stand the toyish look of the PFL and liking the look of this.. BUT TBH, the PFL is thicker and feel so much better in the hand, why would Audi reduce the thickness on the FL????? Dunno, guess I'll just see if the look will overcome this... If not, will just have to switch back...
The wheel is for VC with the "VIEW" button, I had to use a decoder to make the "MENU" button work, but it'll be perfect should I decided to upgrade to VC at later time. This goes well with the modified 8W frameless rear view mirror I installed earlier IMO

Is the mirror an autodim mirror?
Also Is it plug and play?
Oh! Forgot to mention....Great job on the mods...![]()
Nothings ever easy is it?..lolWish it was that simple.. The new A4/Q7 version of frameless uses LIN, A3/TT version uses RF... But the A3/TT frameless are hard to come by or very expensive, I found out the hard way buying the A4/Q7 auto dim compass version, the compass worked but auto dim didn't since it's LIN. Anyway, ended up gutting an older TT auto dim mirror and transplanted the PCB to the A4 housing, that's why you see the little green LED at the button which is not there on the A3/TT version.

Maybe make a how to for future reference?..Nothings ever easy is it?..lol
Makes your mod more commendable with the pcb transplant...Good work Larbel...![]()

Beyond my expertise i'm afraid mate....If you've got a plug to wire then I'm your man...lolThink I have enough pictures to still write one up, but it would be much easier to just buy the FL A3/TT one, since they would be plug and play...
And hmmm... Just noticed an issue on the steering wheel.. Never paid any attention before, but is the LED's brightness on the steering wheel supposed to adjust with the rest of the dash lights? It now switches on and off with headlight, but it's fixed brightness unlike the rest of the cabin's... Can't really think of any reason since there's only one wire for LIN signal... Really strange...

Can you elaborate on the decoder you used to map the view button as your menu? What it is, where you got, how to work it?Finally got around to install the FL steering wheel.. Anyone used Nanolex trim rejuvenator got some for my tierd looking exterior rubbers around the windows, Swisswax was £41 WTF.....no way at this stage of my S3 game was l paying that....
Been trying to find a solution to use the steering wheel buttons to control my android device (like a keyboard press). Have a Joycon EXC which is suppose to read canbus and Lin signals, but haven't been able to get to work at all.Sure, it's actually more of a LIN signal translator, the only difference between the VC version and the standard dial version is one has the "VIEW" and the zone in/out arrows beside the left rotatory dial, the other has the "MENU" button. Since PFL doesn't read the "VIEW" signal, the button has no function when installed to a PFL
This translator is developed by a very well funded tuning company in China, and supposedly, they have many ex-engineers from Audi China working for them. All it does is translating the "VIEW"'s LIN signal to "MENU" signal, for whatever reason, people in China love to put TT or R8 steering wheels on other Audis, that's why the development... It's about US$120 for the stupid thing (Yeah, they're really making a killing on this), but since a proper button set with "MENU" is next to impossible to found and costs like US$300+ I guess it's still worth it, and you keep the option of upgrading to VC later as well..
Here's the picture of the thing, you need to splice the wires, red tap into power, black into ground, and the two white passes through the purple LIN wire. Here's a very sloppy example of the splice, not my picture, mine's done properly and OEM looking lol

Sucks this only does one function. I'd love to get an R8 or FL wheel too, but they just are so expensive...along with this converter device!

Hmm.. From the Joycon EXC spec, looks like it only reads LIN 1.4 or even below since it looks pretty dated... I'm pretty sure 8V is LIN 2.0 so maybe that's why.
And depends on where you source the steering wheel, it can be had at pretty decent price, plus your PFL 8V steering should recoup or even make some money out of it LOL
Get a room you two... lol

Sounds like geek porn talk....Get a room you two... lol

I'm a very open person and like to do everything publicly LMAO
Thanks for that link, I'll have to figure out how to get this to work. Guess I would need to turn those Lin signals into canbus or resistive, then push that to the joycon to we it all working. Think I would have to get directly from the steering wheel module.Hmm.. From the Joycon EXC spec, looks like it only reads LIN 1.4 or even below since it looks pretty dated... It just didn't feel right, and the PFL is just sooooo much more comfortable to hold, maybe I'm spoiled by the PFL thickness which is on the thick side, I guess this wouldn't be an issue if I had the FL from day one, but with back to back comparison, it's really night and days difference... Again, what on earth was Audi thinking reducing the thickness of the new steering wheels????If you're looking to sell thee wheel let me know. I need to get all the facelift components to upgrade my care to VC and that is one that should work.So... in just less than 24 hours, I reverted back to the original steering wheelIt just didn't feel right, and the PFL is just sooooo much more comfortable to hold, maybe I'm spoiled by the PFL thickness which is on the thick side, I guess this wouldn't be an issue if I had the FL from day one, but with back to back comparison, it's really night and days difference...
