I was looking at retrofitting a subwoofer to my car as the current bass isn't great enough. I looked on ekta and found that the subwoofer on ebay for around £50. What else would i need? I do have a VCDS cable

To truly bring it up to the *** spec, you need to replace all the drivers/speakers, plus install a sub & wiring, and an amplifier.

On the service manual and etka catalogue there is no amplifier for the *** spec?

I am interested in this too but the first answer doesn't help. I only want to connect a sub to the standard sound system not upgrade the whole thing.
Mark.

The EQ and drive units in the car will be mis-matched if you just install the boot sub, without changing all the other speakers.

On the back of the standard headunit the pinout on the service manual shows a connection for a sub. I wonder if it would need activating or not

If I remember correctly, the *** doesn't appear to have a separate amplifier - connections for the centre speaker and subwoofer are just taken from the rear of the *** head unit. Also I'm not sure if the door speakers are any different from those in the standard system.

The head units for standard audio and *** may be different though - so the standard head unit may not have outputs for a sub. You'd need to extract a standard unit and have a look at the back or check if the relevant pins in the plug were wired.

*** 9VD does have different/uprated door & A-pillar speakers from Standard, and the Amp module within the 5F unit is also different for power and 6-ch configuration.

B&O 9VS has the additional separate standalone amp, 15-ch.

Standard 9VK, 80 Marketing Watts, 8 Speakers, 4-ch amp
*** 9VD, 180 Marketing Watts, 10 Speakers, 6-ch amp
B&O 9VS, 705 Marketing Watts, 14 Speakers, 15-ch amp

You've either got a much better memory than me, or a copy of ETKA close to hand!
So, does ETKA list different door speakers for 9VK and 9VD?

From what you say, upgrading from standard to *** via the OEM route isn't a viable option.

It seems that there are only two different 5F units, with the std nav containing pin outs for the sub?

Take your pick of 5F units:

8V0 035 889
8V0 035 870
8V0 035 840
8V0 035 842
8V0 035 864
8V0 035 874
8V0 035 043
8V0 035 020
8V0 035 044
8V0 035 021
etc.
