How much have you paid for your first service?

I just phoned three Audi dealers here in Ireland and the prices and conversations scare me!

Audi South Dublin........ No answer on the phone at all! Second number went to voice mail, at 09.30 this morning and still no return call!

Audi North Dublin... (These Guys serviced my TT TDi and my TTS, the latter TTS cost me 154 euro) 350 euro for first service, price is high as it is a performance model????

Audi Naas.... 225 euro and the service manager asked what size engine was in an S3 and was it Petrol or Diesel????

Go figure!

Also at what interval are S3 owners doing the first service, either milage wise or time wise?

This is the most worrying part of all! Maybe take it somewhere that actually knows the car a bit better and will probably be cheaper too!

I have an independent garage that specialises in VAGs already lined up. I simply don't trust the main dealerships.

Main Dealer S3 1st service (Oil Service) around £200.

This does include the updates from Audi etc., which you won't get from an Indy, as they haven't got the hardware/software to connect the car up to the factory (ODIS and GeKo).

Audi in Northern Ireland just quoted £280 (Sterling) which is 350 (ish) euro!

Audi fixed priced servicing for 2.0 litre engines and under - Fixed price services < Servicing and MOT < Owners Area < Audi

Interim service £159
Major service £309
That fixed price servicing regime is only for cars over 3 years old

Wouldn't that invalidate the warranty (cars under 3 years old)?

Not in the EU (EU Block Exemption legislation). But they have to follow the Manufacturers Servicing regime TO THE LETTER, use GENUINE Parts (or OE Equivalent), consumables and fluids, and be able to document and demonstrate that they have done this (receipts etc.). But as stated above, the car still won't benefit from the Manufacturers Updates etc., which on the 8V can only be done by connecting the car up to the Audi AG Factory for downloads. An Indy will also not be aware of the latest TSB's etc.

No, it's against the law for them to invalidate the warranty for that. As much as they'll try and hint at it, they know this as well.

Ooops just read the Irish one more closely also 3 - 10 years.
I don't understand this tho...... 4 year old TTS 189 euro and 1 year old S3 350 euro??

Pure marketing. Most drivers with an new A3 that is covered by the 3-year warranty will take their car to a dealer for servicing. The 4-year plus price is to encourage owners of cars that are not covered by the warranty to still take their cars to a dealer for servicing.

I don't see how or why. Genuine parts will be used and these people are VAG specialists with all the same equipment, and more, as main garages. Minus the price.

I've also had experience of fixed price servicing and paying up front and I tend to find once they have your money they don't give a ****. They also like to make up problems. With what I'm spending on a new A3 I'm just not going there.

Post slightly amended....... :)
