Posting this as I drew a blank both here and on t'internet so it may help others.
My clutch had the worst imaginable judder in the universe, but only intermittently. My VIN fell in the range for the DMF recall. I couldn't get any help from Audi dealers about whether my car was affected and had the work done.
The garage I'd taken it to found a number for Audi customer services UK - 0800 699 888.
They confirmed that my car wasn't subject to the recall.
So for the avoidance of doubt - my 55 reg 1.6 FSI (Engine code BLF) has a conventional solid flywheel not a Dual Mass (DMF) one.
With luck this may help anyone else searching for this info as I was.
The car drives a whole lot better with a new clutch kit fitted - easier gear selection, lighter clutch and no judder. The annoying misfire/hesitancy (no VCDS codes) is still there though.
