And it fixed my power steering lol

How odd....

My Power steering used to screech on full lock ....a common problem i'm led to beleive so i just used to ovoid using full lock,

seperately since getting the car the alternator has always been noisy on tickover and then the other day I breifly saw the battery light come on so I decided as a precaution to swap out the alternator... kept the origional belt and tensioner so no change there....but now my steering screech has gone too.....happy days :) but odd

Its the alternator clutch pulley seizing that causes the screeching so new alternator would technically sort it.

As above seized clutch pulley, engine is liable to idle a bit smoother as well as the belt tensioner won't be jumping around all over the place.

Right... makes sense... I didn't realise the alternator had a clutch , whats it's purpose ?... but on inspection yes your right and it's seized solid.... can they be freed up easily enough? so i know I have a good spare

The clutch pulley can be replaced for about £15 if i remember correctly.
