I didn't choose the advanced key on my order last week, so will there be the push button start? If there is the button, does the key need to be in the ignition and turned to illuminate the amber captions?

No start button with the normal key I'm afraid

It's a good option. You get a nice push button to start/stop and you can keep your key in your pocket at all times. There is also a fingertip sensor of the door handles to lock the car so you literally never have to touch the key fob.

There are posts about it but I know people get annoyed when washing car for example, keeps locking and unlocking. Would be better if the key went into the dash, etc as you still need to find a place to put the key.

Omg you are so right about when washing the car Lmao. Overall though it's one of my favourite options. Would Def spec on any other car I buy.

I did fancy it tbh but was put off, think the button should have been on the dash as well and not the passenger side and a key slot would have been nice. The push button start is cool though.

Yea I'm annoyed they didn't move the Button for right hand drive cars as well. Very lazy. Also I think they should have designed a different key for the system as it really doesn't need a flick key. Should be a hidden key blade in the fob for emergency use

Each to their own but personally I really don't see the point of it. I feel it's hardly a hardship pressing a button on the fob to lock or unlock the car and, in some ways, easier as the fob will be in your hand as you leave or approach anyway. Having a touch sensor thing on the door handle to lock it seems like a pain to me as, when you leave the car, you have to close the door and then press the button, whereas with the normal key I just push the door closed as I walk away then press the button on the fob in my pocket when I hear it slam shut, by which time I'm already a few paces away.

Also, as mentioned, there's the issue of where to put the key when driving. Less of a problem for women as they'll just leave it in their handbag but I wouldn't want the key in my pocket digging into me all the time so I'd have to put it somewhere anyway and then it'd probably rattle around. The ignition slot actually makes a very good key holder lol!

Lastly, with regards to the start button, I realised something recently. When I started the car with the key, I was always holding the key in the start position until the engine fired before releasing it but I suddenly realised that this was totally unnecessary. Of course the ignition isn't a direct electrical connection to the starter motor like it used to be way back when but rather just a signal to the ECU to start the car. As such you can just briefly flick it to the start position and then release it immediately and the car will start. In diesels you can even do this immediately, before the heating coils are warmed up and the car is ready to start and the engine will start a second or so later when the ECU can.

That is rubbish as all you have to do is keep the key inside your house when washing the car. I've had keyless entry on my cars for years, I wouldn't be without it, and it has never presented a problem. Also, if you need to insert a key into the dash, like Volvos, then it makes having keyless a farce, you keep the key in your pocket when driving anyway then you don't have to get it out everytime, which again would be a waste in having keyless. Keyless should be as it says on the tin.
As for getting keys out of your pocket and having to press a button, maybe we should all go back to window winders, or maybe manual adjustment of mirrors as well?

I guess if you can't understand the benefits of keyless entry then you probably don't need it. I for one do...

I love my advance key. Must spec for me.

Same here, love my keyless entry and shiny start button. There is nothing lost by speccing it, you still have a fob with the buttons if you prefer to lock when walking away. Personally, hovering my hand over the door handle for half a second is no biggie. That said, it's far from essential.

I read somewhere if you leave the key in the car it wont lock you out... is this Good or Bad, I don't know!

Each to their own I guess as with all options.

Personally I can think of far better things to use the £400+ on :)

Oh wow, I expected this to be a one reply thread - quite the discussion.

I mainly wanted the button tbh. I knew about the normal key flick to ignite and let the car fire when it's ready. I always come a cropper in my parents new Touran, as the ignition is the old school style.

Sadly as it's a company car I can't alter my spec now, despite not having the call from the chosen dealer yet to factory order it.

I've opted for a shed load of goodies so not too fussed about the AK.

Out of interest doesn't the AK have buttons on, so you could press instead of the sensor on the door handle to lock?

Well until a build slot is assigned the dealer and Audi will generally allow you to alter the spec.

Of course with a company car the main issue is the lease agreement as changing the spec after the order has been placed would require all the finance to be adjusted which is obviously a nightmare.

I had the same situation with one of my cars and the lease company allowed the addition but it had to be paid for outright and up front so the finance agreements were unaffected. If you're desperate to add it then this might be an option for you :)

Yep hot topic like pretty much every other option on here

Thanks, I will leave as is, not that desperate for it LOL

Wouldn't you just leave the key on the drivers seat?

Probably done yourself a favour as a lot of cars are being stolen that have keyless ignition systems ... one option I never want on a car of mine. Having had one car stolen, I never want to go through that experience again.

Heh, hardly going to stop me getting the option next time... I just leave the keys in the car when washing it now, solves that problem! And stops the mirrors folding in if I accidentally lock it too

Also, it's better than the start button is on the passenger side, surely? I use the media control far more and that's closer!

Except when you have unruly passengers ;)

I know, I know, they'll only do it the once etc.

Well, it's hardly out of their reach being on the drivers side is it?!

I can stab their hand with my fork quicker when it wanders over ;)

I read that the button start button either has to be held down when the car is in motion or pressed twice in quick succession to stop the engine.

Yes. I've not tried this yet, but may try it over the weekend on the airfield (in case the steering lock activates!). I'll find out what it does and whether you can just restart it while in motion etc.

I would have thought that you would have to have a method of switching off the engine, in case the car decided to do a Toyota on you !
