Aside from a map difference, was there any changes made by Audi to the base engine when they up'ed the bhp to 225? Cheers

As far as I know it goes something like this:

Early APY engine - large port, no vvt, larger gudeon pins (20mm).

later AMK engine - small port, no vvt, small gudeon pin (19mm) extra emissions stuff x2 lambda probes etc

Latest BAM - As AMK but with vvt.

Ryan will probably be able to give you anything I've missed.

I dont think the APY was a large port... Could be wrong though.

I think that APY has also VVT but it is mechanical and BAM has electrical VVT.

Thanks for the input so far... What does each of these things give the engine?

Assume VVT is variable valve timing and is all about power? Similar to Honda's VTEC? Giving an increased rev limit?

Why reduce the size of the gudgeon pin? More free-reving? Piston head change also?

Port? Improved gas flow? Inc power?

Trying to understand the changes that went on and the reasons for them. Hope you don't mind all the questions! Jon

Bingo Ryan...
VVT only at idle...adjusting the intercam timing...nothing like VTEC.

So if a BAM engine was fitted to a car with an APY engine's ECU, would it work? Basically, is there really no difference?

no. You would have to change the head.vvt module on bam

Surely the BAM engine would still work with an APY ecu, but without the vvt working?

i remember hearing on a course once that the only difference with the vvt engines was the mapping, but have never been bothered to check it out!!!
