1.4 CoD engine

Yes I have noticed the hesitancy as well, as soon as I drove it really, and I can feel the change between the COD cutting in and out. Personally I will not be wasting my money on anything other than supermarket fuel. Nothing out there has ever convinced me these 'premium' fuels are anything more than a marketing ploy...

I have been trying to find a power/torque diagram for the 1.4 cod engine. Has somebody seen one somewhere?

I managed to test drive a SB S line 1.4 cod and a 2.0tdi and ordered the cod. The cod was quite, refined and worked well with stop/start and s tronic. The 2.0 did have a lot more torque and felt more powerful but the cod was so smooth and the lighter engine weight I felt handled better giving me more feedback from the steering. I took the cod on a number of test drives from different dealers and loved it every time only problem is I have to wait til September to call one my own.

This engine is being revised for MY2015 and the power increased to 150PS....

I noticed that. It would just be interesting to see the shape of torque and power curves for either version. I have currently A3 8P 1.8 TFSI. It has nearly the same specs (118kw/250nm) so it would be nice to see how the 103/110kw 1.4 TFSI compares to it.

Just had a nice run up to suffolk from the south coast. Averaged 61mpg on the a21 and 53mpg for the whole journey. Fantastic little engines..

Had little run down to Londinium on Friday. Got 55 mpg even with the hell that is the M25.

Its so easy it can be done without even trying. Over the same journey my previous 2.0l diesel would only mange 44-48mpg...

Just a thought, have you tried to look for Golf GT 1.4 ACT? It's basically the same engine

Today a local car magazine published an article where they tested a VW Golf 1.4 act with manual gearbox for 60000km. There was also diagram showing the factory specs of the motor (dashed lines). There are dyno results in the same picture measured at the end of the test run.

If somebody is interested in the results they said that the motor performed well. Although they said that when accelerating slowly on the fourth or fifth gear at the edge where motor is still on the 2 cylinder mode but will soon change to 4 cylinders they felt minor vibrations. At least local VW service said that it is normal feature of the car. They also took the engine apart and measured it. They didn't find any bigger wear from the parts in the motor itself. Not even from the camsafts that are adjusted by the act system. In the turbo they found some wear. They think that it is at least partly result from longer oil change intervals. The protecting oil layer has got thinner on thrust bearings (I don't know if this is the proper translation for the part, hope so :sm4:). Their prediction is that the turbo needs to be changed at least once during the life time of the car.

I'm very interested in this:

I notice those vibrations too in my 1.4 TFSI CoD. And not only on 4th and 5th gears. Other people have reported they notice them too (you can see the thread here). Do you have more information about this? Perhaps a link to the magazine review?

It is a Finnish magazine so I bet that there are not many that can understand it :) And even if you would understand you have to pay to access it online. They only said that they noticed the vibrations and asked about it from the service when the car was left for the scheduled maintenance. According to article VW service responded that there is nothing wrong with the car and vibration are normal 'feature' of the car. They also noted in the article that the vibrations slightly strengthened when car gained more kilometers. But it was on the other hand said that everybody doesn't even notice the vibrations because they are so mild.

By the way here is a picture of the turbo part that wore most during the test:

Thanks for the detailed information, Hookoo. Yes, some people I've asked say they don't notice the vibrations. Lucky them :)

However you did fail to follow up my question about the vibrations and the build date of your car. The article you linked to in your thread seem to point that it was mainly Golf's with DSG that seemed to suffer from this issue and that VW released a software update that made the vibrations so small that there wasn't anything to worry about.
Maybe in our later builds the ecu had this update incorporated into the build...

Sorry, I missed that question. I ordered the car in January 2014. It was build on March (or maybe late February). I picked it from the dealer at the beginning of April. So it's very recent, just a few months.

Yes, that's my main doubt now: does my ECU already have the fix, or can vibrations be reduced?

Does it really matter to you that much though? You say it is a slight vibration, surely if anything was amiss, as Audi test these engines to destruction, you are covered by the warranty and if there was a fix then your Audi dealer should know. However, as far as I understand, the cars are built with the latest software and sat nav maps.

Well, even if the vibrations are not going to lead the engine to destruction, I do find them annoying. I'm getting into the habit of driving above 2000 rpm to above vibrations, but I'd like not to have to avoid them that way.

I talked today to the dealer salesperson. I'm taking the car next week or the following week. I guess they will say that's engin'es normal behaviour, but I just want to check. I'll report here

Looking forward to hear what they say. I have ordered the 110kw version, hope it will go smoothly :)

Apart from those vibrations (which not everyone seems to find annoying), the engine is smooth. It's very gradual: at every rpm regime you get a great deal of acceleration; even at low rpm, which is not so usual in petrol engines. I think that has to do with the torque figure, which is close to that diesel engines have. And consumption is really low, also close to diesel engines
