2019 Audi S3 (8V) Space Saver Wheel??

I have recently got myself a couple of months ago a nice and neat Audi S3 - she's a beaut.

When I got her she didnt come with a spare tire but came with the special tire filler for if you ever got a puncture. Now I may only be 27 but the S3 is my first car, but have been driving for the past 10 years in my parents cars (you know how it goes). Now I'm a man who likes the notion of knowing I have a spare wheel, if not even just a space saver jockey wheel to at least do the job than the tyre filler stuff that I've never even used before - call me old fashioned

Now the car obviously has a spare wheel well but as you all know the subwoofer sits directly in there so there wouldnt really be room for a 19 inch full sized alloy replacement (which I was quoted £1100 for)....erm no thanks...so I'd be happy with just the space saver.

I went to my local Audi (Audi Wakefield) and passed them this part information
- SG0601011
- T 125/70 R18
- 3.5J x 18H ET25
of which I was handed this information by Audi Stoke - where I got the car from - as I asked them for the part number for a spare space saver).

Now when I went to Audi Wakefield they said that Audi dont recommend a space saver wheel for the S3 2019 8V (something to do with my chassis number - as they change the chassis number every 6 months or so I was told). He could see the part information (as put above) on the system as theoretically available to order - apparently it comes up under the previous chassis number - this was just the metal wheel itself, not the tyre, but to be sure it would fit he raised a support request with the special parts centre who are based in Leicester of which I eventually heard back that because my chassis is so new, and because they dont recommend it, they couldnt supply an appropriate part number for me.

Now I dont really get why they said that in my opinion.

Audi Stoke gave me a part number that came up on their system, it has the well in the boot for a wheel, why wouldnt they be able to sort out a space saver wheel?

Now my parents have a 2017 Audi A3 - they have 17 inch rims, and a 16 inch space saver (the irony....), so I was actually going to test to see if (just by sheer fluke) it would fit the S3 wheel rim at least, as I wouldnt have imagined they would completely have changed the wheel fittings and design between the A3/S3 2017 - 2019, but I could be completely wrong in that - havent checked yet.

Long story short is has anyone been able to get a space saver wheel for a 2019 S3 8V, and if so what was the part number and size and did you have the same ****** issues that I have had?

Well of course the reason the S3 has a spare wheel well is because all the A3 flavours have the same body shell.
I agree that I would not be that happy with just a can of stuff (that I understand writes off the tyre, even if the puncture is repairable)
Maybe the reason they don’t recommend a get you home spare wheel for the S3 is that the average S3 driver can’t be trusted to drive at 50 mph?

I’m sure I have a spare wheel in my s3. The sub sits in the middle of it. Will try and get a pic when I get back to the car.
Your only problem might be that the space saver doesn’t fit over the front brake calipers.
Remember my old Honda had a space saver and the manual said if it’s a front puncture then put space saver on back and use back wheel on the front not sure if this is the same on the s3.

I understand about the caliper thing, wouldnt know - like I said mine are 19 inch wheels, but the space saver coming up on the system/part given by Audi was an 18 inch - just would prefer to use the space saver even if it isnt a "formal approval" from audi - at the end of the day, its just to get you on your way and to get to a garage to sort it out with a replacement of which if they know their customer base, anyone owning an S3 is going to take pride in doing.

Audi probably removed it on wltp cars to save weight and reduce emissions/increase efficiency.
The rolling radius between 18s and 19s is not that much so I would assume Audi uses the same spare wheel for most if not all a3/s3.
I would avoid using the gunk. I remember years ago I used a can of gunk on a slow puncture took it to a tyre fitter for a new tyre and got charged more cause they spent an hour cleaning the inside of the wheel so they could fit a new tyre.

Yes my friend - the wltp sounds about right with the weight reduction and emissions - funny thing is I was told that I probably would have been able to get one if I'd have ordered the car from factory and had it built, but as you all know about them stopping that I ended up getting a pre made one that fit my spec so to speak.

Yeah - am gonna try and put my dad's 16 inch space saver on mine just to see if it fits from a wheel hub/caliper point of view and if so will buy an 18 incher for the A3 and whack it on mine as like you said, really dont want to put that stuff in the tyre which wrecks the tyre and even then is not guaranteed to work..

Just annoying when you actually want to spend the money to get what you want :-/

Try it with the rear as that has tiny brakes. At least that way you know you can always move the back to front and use space saver on the back. I wouldn’t recommend using a space saver on the front anyway as that does all the steering and braking.

Two issues I can think of:

Calliper clearance - already discussed but I’d be surprised if the 16” spacesaver gives safe clearance on the fronts.


Circumference / rotational difference. The 16” spacesaver has ~10% lower circumference than the 19s - that’s going to put strain on your drivetrain and scrub the spacesaver much quicker. Would probably confuse TPMS too.

If you are going to buy an 18” anyway, why risk damage trying to fit the 16”?

Can you get a space saver for a 19 plate s3 reason i ask is i slightly curbed my rear alloy today coming out of the manchester arndale car park well pi$$ed off as you can imagine my car not having a spare wheel will mean i have to take my car off the road to have it repaired which would be a pain in the ar$e .

Yes. The 125/70 R18 spacesaver has similar circumference to the 225/40/R18 and 235 or 225 /35/R19 so you’d be fine with that spacesaver.

My 2018 S3 on standard 19" wheels has the same size of space saver as mentioned/shown above - T125/70 R18.
I was happy to find this as my previous car only had a can of sealant.

Three day the wheel specialist want the wheel for to repair it and the damage isn't that bad
but i'am not having no car for three days for a wheel refurb

Will this definitely fit as i'am going to have to buy one off ebay because
my ocd won't allow me to drive around with curbed wheel for long

Other option is go down to your local scrapyard and find a wheel for a3 or golf in 17/18s and keep that as a full size spare.
