Audi Sport Engineers are making quick progress on the new 2018 Audi RS 4 Avant. We can now see the RS-spec front bumper with the bigger openings and the rear bumper features standard RS oval exhaust hidden under the camouflage. However, the wider fenders are still fake under the camouflage; they will most have a different shape when it finally breaks cover. This RS prototype is also wearing the typical bigger wheels and brakes, so it´s pretty clear we are dealing with the RS4 here.
It’s still very much unclear what engine we will find under the hood. Rumors are suggesting a twin-turbo version of the 3.0-Liter TSFI V6 found inside of the new S4. Other rumors indicate that one of those turbos will be electric, and the 2018 Audi RS 4 V6 will be delivering close to 500 hp.
While we know North American will get a shot at a next generation B9 RS model, It remains unclear if that will be an RS 5 or RS 4. Audi brought a B9 RS 5 to the Audi Dealer General Managers meeting host last year. That could be a strong indication that the 2-door RS 5 will live on to the B9 generation. However, there are even rumblings of an RS 5 Sportback as the American market has responded very kindly to the A7 Sportback and associated S7 and RS 7 Sportback
