apologies if this is a dumb question and has been asked before (I have looked...but everyone says that anyway) I've been looking at a 2015 1.4 tfsi 125 is this the same engine as the 150 (minus the cylinder deactivation) that can be remapped to 180? also what year a3 did the detuned 150 come as standard if that makes sense. cheers all jay
A 2015 1.4 will be a COD I think. Mine is 2014 (2015 model year) and is the cod engine. I thought they only made the 150 1.4 then.
that's what I'm ideally after is a 150 with cod but theres a few of the 125's floating around on auto trader and didnt fancy getting the one that only remapped to 150 ish for when I tire of the standard output
Try to get a 150, or even a 140, they are very good engines and quite nice with a tuning box on them...
Mushy peas. They go well with Cylinder On Demand. And Tartare Sauce. Plays havoc with the leather seats though :-(
Hi Jay! Maybe I can try to help. I'm driving 2016. A3 with this engine and have done a lot of research regarding performance upgrades on this engine. Engines are NOT the same, more important gearbox is not the same (MQ200 vs MQ250). Yes, you can easily tune this engine to around 160HP and 250NM but gearbox and clutch will suffer. Also, this engine has an "integrated" intercooler and is prone to heat soak, so any additional HP might become useless after driving for a while, especially in hot weather. If I where You I would go straight for COD engine. 125HP engine is enough for this car, drives nicely and will suit you well if you drive moderately. But, if you have aspirations toward spirited driving go for COD engine and start upgrades from there.
Why not buy a 1.8? Will probably be cheaper than a 1.4+map. 180 BHP, no overstressed gearbox, clutch etc, relatively economical, no cambelt. If you can find one.
I've toyed with the idea but tbh I then think I'm not far away fuel (economy wise) from cupra territory that's if you believe the figures. my commute doesn't justify a cupra driving 7 miles out of centre of Manchester can take me 40-60 mins in constant start move a metre stop traffic so the mpg unfortunately plays quite a big part in knocking that idea on the head
Interesting idea Matt re 1.8. I had a 1.8 and GF has 1.4 COD. * 1.4 COD noticeably more economical than the 1.8 for shorter journeys. Long journeys there’s not a big difference. * Torque similar but 1.8 keeps powering up the Rev range after 1.4 COD has run out of puff * Agree re no cam belt on 1.8 but on the flip side, expect your thermostat housing to leak, so the two are cost neutral. * 1.8 also has 2 sets of fuel injectors - for both direct and indirect injection. No need to worry about loss of power over the years due to ‘coking’ inlet valves and manifold.
-and if economy is your thing, and you're looking at pre April 2017 cars, the road tax on the 1.4 is only £20.........
