    Back where I belong.

I have been a member here for a long time so some of you who have journeyed through the ranks may know me. However, a bit of Audi history, started off with a:
    • 2004 A3 2.0TDI when I was at uni for 3/4 years
    • bought a 2007 sprint blue S3 in 2009 - 2014 and modified it to Revo 2+ plus some tasty extras
    • deviated slightly to a Porsche Cayman S for 9 months
    • then back to a 2009 S4 Avant which only lasted 4 months (gearbox)
    • then in 2015 I bought a 2010 Scirocco R
Since then, my wife got a 2009 A3 1.8TFSI BE SB and since, I have been dying to get back into an Audi.

Put my Scirocco R up for sale and eventually traded it in for 2014 glacier white 3dr black styling (edition) S3, to which I am over the moon about.

I toyed and toyed with the idea of an 8P RS3 and a 2011/12 RS5 but my car didnt sell privately and the trade offerings against those cars for mine were terrible. I compromised with the new S3 which to be honest, suits me a lot more I think. Its modern, fresh, relatively new and quick (for now!).

Anyway, picked this up in Bristol which meant a long drive there and back from Belfast, however, it was all worth it:

    3dr Black Styling
    Super Sport Seats
    DSG/Stronic
    B&O
    NAV/Bluetooth
    Red Calipers
    etc...

As said, I am totally over the moon with it and cannot wait to get started changing a few bits and pieces here and there.

    So far I have:
    • added alarm chirp
    • turned off the internal engine noise speaker
    • opened exhaust valves permanently
    • black washer bottle cap
    • Gecleant rear wiper bung delete bought (not fitted)
    • Cherished Northern Ireland registration is on

    In the immediate pipeline:

    • I've ordered the leather extension parts from BKS
    • I've ordered RS3 internal door handles
    • Facelift cupholder lights
    • Booked in for professional detail with Gtechnique Serum over Easter break
    • Revo map
    • Intake mod
    • H&R Spacers all round
    • H&R 20/25mm springs
Hopefully the above will keep me entertained for a while but just going to enjoy it and hope it keeps a smile on my face for the foreseeable future!

12v dummy from the facelift which has aluminium knurling - only cost £5 so bought two, one for the rear as well.

Stupid question but anyway - I see that the cigarette lighter in the front is actually a lighter, I thought it was just a faux cover. Is the actual socket still just a power socket? I.e. Is it just the plug that is the lighter? So if I buy this part I can just chuck the lighter and put the nice new plug in even though it Used to house a lighter.

I honestly have no idea lol I just wanted the rear to match the front, at a guess I'd say that the front will be a 12v power socket but you could still stick one of these blanks in there.

There is still a 12v supply going to the socket - the lighter acts as a plug and of course, a lighter - the new 12V logo'd dummy is just a blank plug but power still goes to the socket when a charger jack for example is plugged in

First main change which is a popular air box mod. Totally free and takes about 15 mins to do:

Black washer cap installed (already came with black coolant):

    IMG_3003.JPG

    Remove air box cover:

    IMG_3006.JPG

VAG seem to have inserted some sort of filter plate or screen before the filter which just causes more obstruction:

    IMG_3007.JPG

    Just pulls out:

    IMG_3008.JPG

Hoovered up the leaves and stuff then put it back together:

    IMG_3009.JPG

Personally not sure if I noticed any difference, I'm sure it's minor. There are other mods you can do with the front grill to allow more air in but haven't worked that out yet without taking off the front bumper.

Tomorrow is another day with further plans.

The S3 had the optional extra of extended leather. For the 3 door hatch this means door card armrests and centre console bolsters in leather.

It isn't an expensive option for the 8V and considering the person who spec'd mine with the seats, I was surprised the car didn't come with it.

Anyway, these arrived earlier this week and took to work this evening:

    Basic S3 door card:

    IMG_3295.JPG

Very easy to remove, just 3 screws then all poppers:

    IMG_3296.JPG

I had bought some RS3 interior handles since I knew I was doing this job so it all tied in nicely:

    IMG_3297.JPG IMG_3298.JPG IMG_3299.JPG IMG_3300.JPG

Armrest off, these were different to the 8P where they were all screwed in whereas the 8V are all plastic welded. Quick drill and all released then secured with OEM self tappers:

    IMG_3301.JPG

    Et voila:

    IMG_3302.JPG

    And in the car:

    IMG_3303.JPG IMG_3304.JPG

Repeated for the passenger side and both are now in and makes a huge difference to the interior. I've the centre console to do next but I'm lead to believe its a lot more tricky. Think I'll leave a day for that!

I think I joined the forum in 2009 and I remember pictures of your sprint blue s3 on the bbs ch, was spot on, not long after I ended up getting CH's. New car looks great and some tasteful mods on the way, enjoy!

Dropped my car off there to my local detailers PMG AutoCare in Belfast for Gtechniq Crystal Serum Black plus full paint correction - coincidentally their dent guy was on site and had a look around the car - found 6 small dents (4 of which I didnt know) so he managed to get them all out :)

    file-8.jpeg

The paint correction has come along very well I'm told with majority if not all defects removed - cannot wait to get the car back tomorrow!!!

The finished product - overwhelmed by the finish and quality of work done by the guys at PMG in Belfast

Car was treated top to bottom with paint correction and finished in Gtechnique Crystal Serum Black (H)

Was up home in the north coast of Ireland to see my parents over the weekend, wife was away to Dublin so I took myself off a blast round our fantastic coastal roads and countryside

More or less the route I followed from Springwell Forest to Limavady, on round to Downhill, Portstewart - Portrush - Portballintrae then home again

    North Coast.jpg

I left out Magilligan Point there in the map oops but here is the shot:

    IMG_3572.JPG

The drove round to Downhill and up Bishops Road to a lookout called Gortmore:

    IMG_3577.JPG

    IMG_3578.JPG

Back down the Bishops Road to the beach:

    IMG_3582.JPG

Called into my old school, haven't been there in years (14??) - some memories on that pitch! :)

    IMG_3585.JPG

On round then to Portballintrae past Dunluce Castle - this is on the way back and stopped to get a view of the Skerries, White Rocks beach and Portrush

    IMG_3589.JPG

Fantastic afternoon drive - love this car!

Been a busy week and at this stage of ownership I hadn't planned on doing much since having had the expensive detail carried out on the car but you know how things go, items you want for sale pop up at the wrong time but its now or never!

I love the look of the car on the stock 18s but something was just niggling at me to change. I had 19" BBS CH on my old S3:

    S3.1.jpg

So my love for a set of 19" anthracite BBS CH-R grew stronger and I was sure they were the wheels I wanted for my new S3. I had some concerns though, was I just repeating my old car, would I face some grief from friends about having no imagination, was the S3 now going to look more like a TDI rep since there are little differences between it and a modded S'Line?

These thoughts kept me awake at night lol (not really)

Anyway, I had been keeping my eye on the for sale section and @chazd was selling a set of immaculate OEM 19" S3 alloys. I hummed and ho'd for several weeks over this but was still sticking my ground to the CH-R idea, then I just decided to go for it. Spoke at length with Chaz (awesome member), pictures sent on request and struck a deal.

The wheels arrived last night and I picked them up from the shipping company as I missed them at home! Bank holiday weekend so want to get them looking perfect before tyres next week hopefully:

    Packed up in VOSSEN boxes:

    file3-1.jpeg

Was very impressed with how well they were packed as this was a main concern of mine buying wheels and having them shipped privately over to Belfast:

    file2-1.jpeg

    file5-1.jpeg

    file4-1.jpeg

    Lola approved :)

    file1-2.jpeg

Ordered some Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour which should be here next week, immediate plans are to apply some fall out remover to ensure they are squeaky clean, remove any weights ready for balancing and then get them down for tyres - pretty sure I have settled on Michellen Pilot 4S 235/35/19 - their reviews are quite impressive and I had PS2's on my Cayman S which I thought were fantastic.

I have H&R spacers in my garage from my Scirocco which I will mess around with once I have the tyres on, also ordered 20mm H&R springs which arrived last week too so hopefully within the next couple of weeks the stance of the car will have changed considerably - looking forward to the finish line!

Oh and the remaining parts from BKS arrived the other day for the interior leather as they sent me a LHD centre console and somehow forgot to include the 3dr rear armrests so that is a task for Monday I think!

Got to say it's the first time I've seen this mod done. No change in noise or anything? I understand why the air flow is better but it causes the filter to become blocked regularly?
