    Hello,

I have the above car and it has regularly begun switching the EPC light on on the dashboard which then turns off the start stop system with "start stop system fault! Function unavailable", also on the dashboard.

I have run Carista on it and I have 2 fault codes:

03041 - Energy Management Active - I think this may relate to the battery

14846 - Manufacturer Specific Code - apparently relates to Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor(?)

The car drives fine and appears to have the same amount of power it always has and is not going in to limp mode but the fault is coming up more regularly and I would like to get it sorted....

Any help diagnosing and fixing this would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks.

Thanks for that, I will start with the battery. Is there a way to test the battery? I have MMI3.5G so I cannot display the battery level. Any ideas on that second fault or could it be related to the duff battery?

Stick a multi meter on the battery without the engine running and see what voltage you get.

Mine was 12.1, new battery was 12.4. Old battery wouldn't go above 30% in the last year according to the MMI, new battery in, 20 miles later at 100%

Thanks for that- just checked - 11.9 so I guess that would be an issue... was it a big job to change the battery? Did you manage to find a battery that wasn't a comedy price? It is an absolute monster stuffed under the spare wheel with a lot of stuff clamping it down and a wire coming out of the side of it going somewhere that looks like it is attached to the battery?! I also can't get a picture of the label because of all of the plastic coverings.

I've attached a pic for comparison..

    Exactly the same as mine.

Remove the plug on the bottom left of the sub, 10mm socket to remove the 3 bolts. Slide up the tray the jack sits in. I think the spare wheel mount takes a 13mm socket (IIRC) same for the plate holding the battery in. Battery terminals are 10mm. Pull up (what I presume is) a breather pipe on right side.

Takes 5 mins to swap over.

To start with remove that plastic cover to see what battery you have. Might be AGM, or 020. If it is AGM, I suspect your's will be with stop/start that puts the price up i'm afraid.

I got same spec battery with 110Ah, but higher cranking power at 900A, which is fine via bro in law who works at a car spares place for £89 with his discount. Mate at drift bridge also quoted the genuine replacement part of 000 915 105 DL for £153.76 instead of retail of £207.79.

Thanks for your help all... I have a picture of the battery which is a Varta one with the same part no 000 915 105 CF and is 950A, my local parts store is a Varta dealer so I will see what they can do price wise but if they don't come up with the goods I'll give the eBay one a shot.

The breather hose on the right (pic attached) did yours just slide off and back on again? Any idea what it is for?

I am based in Bristol, I have Carista which I am hoping will clear any errors....

I'm hoping this will stop the EPC light coming on as well but I'm not holding my breath....

Breather hose just slots it and yes Carista should do it, worked on mine.

When you change the battery you can clear the codes but give it a 20 mile or so drive for the car to learn and then clear the codes (if they re appear) and that should be them gone then.

    Hey there!

I have the exact same EPC light thats been coming on for the last few months but has started getting worse.

I also have "start stop system fault! Function unavailable", when the EPC light is on, also on the dashboard.

I have run Carista too and have:

14846 - Manufacturer Specific Code - Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor(?)

I spoke to my mechanic about it briefly, he said it could be anything to do with the turbo system (Cooler piping, airbox, air filter ect ect)

Have you noticed any change to fuel economy?

Thanks for your help so far all...

Mattpaternosta- mpg no worse than usual.

I had the start stop issue last year when the weather got colder and it has come back again with the EPC light this year as the weather has turned.

I spoke to a mechanic who hooked it up to VCDS and the error was present after I cleared it with carista, he cleared it again but it has come back again..

He said he would check the continuity of the wiring from the ECU to the actuator 1st as it was so intermittent followed by testing the ECU for hardware issues, after that it would be the actuator itself.

He also said if it went in to limp mode you'd be able to get a more definitive answer as to what it might be and the engine wouldn't/shouldn't go bang if I left it.

I am going to try changing the battery 1st as that is the only issue I can think of relating to the change in temperature.

I get the feeling this is going to be a tedious and expensive troubleshooting exercise so if you find an answer please let me know!

Will be getting it changed soon.

Delving deep on the web this Russian site seems to think the 14846 error is the actuator which apparently VAG won't sell as a part on its own without the complete turbo:

Personally I wouldn't be trying to fix in the future. For now change the battery, run the car, clear codes and scan a few days later.

I think you might find your problem may just disappear.

I think (and really hope!!) You are right, hopefully just a brain fart caused by a duff battery.
