hi, would really appreciate some help if anyone can. My daughters Audi A3 has been unused for 2 months apart from being started occasionally. We went to start it on Sunday and the dash was completely dead. Air con radio indicators etc all ok. Car is turning over and will occasionally start but the immobiliser cuts in, so won't run. Battery is ok horn works. Hubby has checked fuses and all seem ok. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Before you start with anything else you want to get the battery fully charged up. A half charged battery can cause strange problems.
Maybe try jump starting it, if it starts when it’s connected to another car then it’s obviously to do with the battery.

I would imagine the battery is not liking it's sedentary life. Before you start paying garage charges to find out what's wrong, get the car started and go for a long drive. You might find other warning lights on the dash are lit as well but after a long drive they should go out and fingers crossed all will be well.
If the same thing keeps happening then a new battery is required, seven years is average battery life.
There have been other A3 dash light problems mentioned on this forum, hopefully someone can advise you on that later.

Will try and jump start it with our car tomorrow and see if that keeps it going, we did put her battery on a 36 hour charge but maybe it's just not enough. Thanks for your reply

Unfortunately we can't get the car started for long enough to go for a long drive, it starts and stops in 2/3 secs. But many people seem to mention the battery so we could get that checked out.

The battery should have charged in 36hrs. it's goosed.
It started off at 3 amps and after 36 hours was still pushing in 1 amp on a trickle charge. Where's the best place to get a battery checked out? Be amazing if that was all it is

Well, that sounds ok then. As you mentioned it only runs for 2 mins. then something else maybe wrong. If your in the AA/RAC then they may help diagnose if you have Homestart.

Do you think it could be a cluster fault? We have someone coming up to run the fault code thing this afternoon, really appreciate your input

Sounds like a cluster fault, the immobiliser kicks in after 2-3 seconds. Might be good to unplug it and plug it back in if it's just a bad contact from standing.
