2009 A6 facelift MMI dead, have a same year, can I switch parts?

Dear all.
My MMI dead a couple of months ago, I have now found a friend who has the same year both 2009 LED facelift model, and he agrees for me to switch parts to help me find the fault, the question is would I be able to do that and where should I start?

Iirc a lot of mmi components have component protection on them so that would rule out swapping them around as you would need to get it disabled each time.

As above that's a bad idea for your friend. To find the fault a simple VCDS scan will tell you which module is dead. Have a look at the VCDS map to find someone local to you.

I did buy a loop bypass so if I know where all the modules are I can bypass them one by one until I find the faulty moudle?
