2007 s3 8p front brake callipers query!

I might sound a bit numb. But does anybody know what the round things for on the drivers side front brake calliper. It's on like a. All joint and moves around. But there's nothing on the passengers side.
Should there be?
Am I missing something. I keep hearing knocks and rattles but can't find anything that could cause it.

I think they are a damper to help prevent brake squeal. There should be one one each calliper. Don't think they do much though.
