:sos:Hi guys, wonder if any of you can help me with my problem, I've got the 2007 2.0 TDi 140 BKD engine A3.
Yesterday I was driving along & stopped at a junction, I heard a beep & my ABS & ESP light iluminated on my dash with a message saying fault, see car manual.
Then I parked up & went into my doctors. Got back in the car & the lights had gone out! Started off fine, but then my car wouldn't shift past 3rd gear unless I redlined it:wtf:I thought! Today I got in the car lights came back on dash, yet gears were smooth again. This is intermittent, when the ABS & ESP lights are on, gears shift fine, when the lights go out again my car drives as if it's in sport, I'm having to rag it to get it to auto change. Paddles work fine tho, as does the shifter in m mode:wtf: My car is confused! :blownose:

Any Ideas guys?? Pleeeease!
cheers in advance!

I wouldn't be an expert but it could be the mechatronics unit which is known to give problems.

When it's warmed up does jerk when taking off in first gear or reversing?

Also does it shift down to early to second gear when slowing down?

Hi, I'm not having jerking probs, just that my car thinks its in sport when in D & It revs its t**s off before changing up. I Can change up & down smoothly with stick & paddles, just not in D auto.

you need to scan for fault codes

Hi did you find out what the issue was?

I'm experiencing the exact same behavior with my car a 2006 A3 2.0 TDI BKD with dsg.

Have you scanned it for faults? OP hasn't been active for a while..

Hi there, for me is was a rear speed sensor, it can also be the wheel bearing causing the sensor to react & give false readings. My gears were erratic as hell, as soon as I had the speed sensor done it was sweet.
The sensors are cheap, but the labour the stealers will charge will take it up over £200.00+. If you know a mechanic who can do it on the cheap, avoid huge un-necessary labour charges.
Hope you sort it.:blackrs4:

Although this thread is a bit long in the tooth I thought I'd add my experience...

I have a early 2007 A3 8PA 2.0 TDI 170bhp Sportback with the DSG box. It has 155,000 miles on the clock but got a brand new DSG fitted at 140K (at a crazy discount as the dealer managed to shear a stud when doing the oil change on my perfectly good old one!). Just to build the picture around the same time I had a rear brake disk splash plate replaced as the three screws that hold it in place had corroded through.

So not long after my brand new DSG was fitted I started experiencing the problem with the DSG struggling to find higher gears. At first it was just not shifting into 6th but a blip on the paddle would hit 6th and stay there, then a few weeks later it would not find 5th from 4th.... again using the paddles would help it up and I could stay in Drive. Over time however there was further deterioration to the point where to get past 3rd I'd have to go "manual" and leave it in manual to control 4th, 5th and 6th. Re-selecting Drive in the higher gears just caused the box to downshift one or two gears and rev the nuts off the engine!

To be clear I had absolutely no other symptoms, no dashboard lights, no warnings nothing!

Now some of you may be thinking why had I not taken it back to Audi at this point! Good question to be honest but time and necessity precluded it to be honest. The gearbox was performing perfectly in manual mode and so I was extremely dubious as to whether the actual gearbox itself was at fault. I read a lot of forums including this thread, my concern being that if the DSG wasn't the source of the fault then it wouldn't be covered by warrantee and could lead to a heavy stealership bill for fault finding and rectification.

As I was due a service I went to an Indy and asked them to do a diagnostic scan. It came back clean as a whistle, no fault found! I tried explaining the fault, even mentioned this thread and asked them to investigate but got a massive fob off, they just kept trying to send me to their mate the auto box specialist! I was livid quite frankly, Audi specialist my a#$€!

So I took the matter into my own hands, and replaced the rear wheel hub/bearings myself. (I will post about that in the appropriate forum).

First hub done - test drive, no change.
Second hub done - test drive....... bingo! Drives like the day it came out of the factory!

So there you have it. The Speed sensor system on the rear hubs has a direct link to the DSG logic and even though it wasn't faulty enough to ping on a diagnostic scan it was enough to make the car almost undriveable. Referring back to the top of this post, you will note I mentioned Audi had replaced a brake disk splash plate. This actually requires the hub to be removed (I could tell Audi had done this as the hub nut was brand new this side but the heavily corroded hub had been put back on). My suspicion is that in doing this the speed sensor ring on that old hub was disturbed such that the integrity of the magnets was compromised.

I hope this adds credence to this post and helps other VAG DSG owners in future.

Cheers
Ben

Hi Ben, i had the same issue as you on my 2007 SBK but the wheel bearings wernt at fault. The issue i had was the actual teeth the sensor reads were rotted through. I had a new sensor and hub replaced a filter and oil change on the DSG box and the car felt new again.
I have posted it also about 2yrs ago.
Happy days!
