Hello,

I want to change the timing belt on a 2007 Audi A6 2.7 tdi. No, I'm not referring to the timing chains that are at the back of the engine, but the belt that drives the high pressure pump.

Does it have to be aligned with some marks? Or it doesn't matter, as is just needed to be rotating? Autodata only shows info about the chains, nothing about the belt.

Thank you!

It's not a timing belt, it just a ribbed belt and there are no timing marks. Personally I would not bother I've never heard of one failing. If I was going to do some preventative maintenance on the front belts I would look at the crank pulley they do fail and when they let go they can do a massive amount of damage to the front fans, and the fans are not cheap to replace.

Thanks for the info. I will change it because the idler pulley is leaked and the mileage is 250k. As I've removed the front to repair the alternator, I think it's wise to change this as well.

I've never heard of the crank pulley fail. I will look into it.
