Hello !
Just bought a '53 plate B6 avant 2.5tdi Quattro auto SE in great condition, 170k miles but great history and new cams/belt fitted 20k miles ago - hopefully no issues there !
Anyway, is there anything I should be looking out for engine/box/quattro wise after I collect the car at the weekend ?
e.g is it wise to clean/delete the EGR system and clean the VNT turbo etc., how would I know if injection pump problems will crop up etc. etc.
Just want to keep it looking and running good. Hopefully it won't be too expensive to run fuel wise, I've just come from a MK5 Golf GTI so as long as it's no worse than that i'll be happy (26-28MPG in town, 32-35MPG long runs).
I'll get some pics up after the weekend !

Welcome the forum, look forward to seeing the car!

You'll beat those Golf mpg figures I'm sure.

Does the recent belt change include the invoice to cover all the pulleys and bolts etc, as they're usually what fails.

Fuel pump is a bit of a wait and see issue as far as I'm aware... Worst case it's probably £500-700 so whilst it's not good news it's not gonna write the car off.

Thanks quattrojames,
The car has come from a local garage where it was the Directors wife's car and they just did whatever was necessary, £3000 bill apparently for that work alone.
I've got no reason to disbelieve them though and it's super quiet and smooth even on a cold start idle
Fingers crossed though !

Hi and Welcome,

Great choice of engine! The 2.5 is a great lump but like any car, can have a few issues, hopefully with your mileage and history, most of them ironed out.

Have you got paperwork stating what was done? and a receipt to back up the stamp (if there is one) in the book?

I also have the 2.5Q and I love it. My second 2.5 I;ve owned and it won't be my last I'm sure.

Dan

There's various receipts etc with the car, too many to go through on the viewing. I'll get more info and pics posted when it's on my drive !
I glazed over a lot of them to be honest once that engine started..........

Good to have you with us.Had my 04 for about 2yrs before that it was my sons and he still borrows it when his S4 is in pieces.A lot depends on how hard you drive but mine will go over 40 cruising on the m/way but down to near 20 in town cos its harder to keep the revs down in an auto.I wouldn't touch anything major if its running well unless you think like some that the ATF could be changed. The box is said to be sealed for life but got mine done by Audi and it seems happier

Cheers MikeB, the box and diff oil have been changed so hopefully they'll be fine for many more miles. Out of interest do you drive the car much in tip mode as opposed to auto, just wondered how this would affect economy ?
In case you were wondering though, I didn't buy the car for economy reasons but it all helps !

I haven't used tip much cos the auto is good enough for me both in traffic and open road its smooth and satisfying and I prefer it to a manual and I have always been a lazy changer.Mine does have a tuning box which my son fitted and he says gives it better performance and I have never argued. Its had the belts etc done by Adamms24 on here who also did the timing and has been great since then.He is atop man with these and special to watch work on an engine

Thanks for that, it's always good to here other people's views. I've seen adamms24 name crop up a few times whilst reading the forum but I'm quite a way from him (North East), hopefully I won't need to travel down to see him !
On another note, anyone know any decent Audi specialists in the North East that know their way round the 2.5 lump for fututre works ?

Had folk come as far as Yorkshire for me to work on their cars, in a few weeks i have an irish chap driving over for a bit of tuning on his car !

east yorkshire! and had a lovely couple of days in London, all belts and timing done and all for less than Audi wanted. Will definitely be going again when its due.
