So...
My rough idle till warmed up that I'd have no luck tracking down the cause of has turned into a dead engine, oil light, even though I caught it quick and got to the hard shoulder, turned into a seized engine. As you can imagine I'm somewhat gutted.
Have made a few initial enquiries about a remanufactured engine and they're approaching 4k, as the cars not worth much more even running well I'm thinking I may have to cut my losses.

Would be glad to hear anyone's alternative ideas on how I might replace this BGB engine.

I.

That's bad news mate!

There's a company on eBay that will supply and fit a 2.0t fsi for £1600. Just search 2.0t fsi engine. They collect supply and fit.

Aww no. :-( Gutted for you. What age and mileage is the car if you don't mind me asking?

Whooaa. that's quite bad pal.
May I ask what did lead to this?
also what mileage on the engine?

It's an 05 (first of the B7) 123k. It started out as a rough idle, classic coils and plugs but that didn't sort it. Had a trusted Audi specialist give it a once over and they couldn't be definite over a root cause (checked all the sensors etc). Wasn't about to sell it privately - was looking to chop it in at Audi, but didn't get funds together before it gave up.
Cars in good nick otherwise (very good) and it's the best car I've owned so would be good to get it running but guessing it's not going to be a 'head' type decision to spend that sort of money on it.
Read about the eBay co doing £1600 engines, National Engine Centre have apparently been on BBC (not in a good way) and there's a few terrible reviews if you google them.

Ohh! Was that them? Yeah I did actually see that on bbc. I didn't realise it was them. What's failed then? Is it the oil pick up? Any lights on the dash etc?

Not good news at all mate. Hope ya managed to get it sorted...
