Just got myself an 2007 a4 se (as above) from my partners dad who has had it from new. Has 196k on the clock and never let him down. Always serviced.

Still on the stamdard clutch and turbo atm. Going to get clutch replaced this year and then remap.

But... After reading up constantly for the past three days I'm beginning to get a little scared of spending money it due to this oil pump problem.

What do you guys suggest I do? Anyone know the cost of getting the oil pump problem sorted incase it goes after the remap?

Thanks

As you know the owner you'll know the history of the car in detail and 196k is an indication of a well looked after engine. However, if you have any concerns about your oil pump drive then get it sorted, or at the very least talk to one of the companies that produce the upgraded balance shaft. If you have a good independent specialist locally then talk to them about fitting costs etc. The price may vary slightly depending on your model of A4. Also, if you haven't already done so, take the time to read the large ongoing thread on here about the problem and that should give you a feel for the work involved and associated costs. At the end of the day it will come down to what the car is worth to you..

Fit an oil pressure gauge so you can monitor the oil pressure as it will give you an early indication of problems starting

Going through the same dilemma mate, only clocked 120k mind u. Thinking I will go with an upgraded balance shaft with the 100mm long key.

Only prob with going this route is weather to change the oil pump and sprocket at the same time, further cost of circa 300 quid for parts alone.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the BRE engine was ok, as in, didn't have the oil pump problem? Seem to remember reading it was more '05/'55 plates with a different engine code (can't remember which) that was more susceptible to the oil pump problem?

I thought blb engine codes were more at risk of pump failure than bre could b wrong tho
