2.0 TDI AirCon compressor clutch failure

Just got my 55 plate, 65k on the clock, back from the garage after the compressor clutch basically disintegrated internally.

With no search can't tell how common this may be, anyone else had this go?

My a/c compressor was replaced in the summer ( fortunately on warranty or the main dealer would have charged me £863 ) and thats on an 05 2.0 tdi with 45k .
An a/c specialist would have charged around £500 for the same job.

A guy on one of the golf forums found a place on the german eBay that sold the clutches seperately for around £60 I think. It might be worth having a trawl on there. I'm sure it was direct from the manufacturer, so find the make and type that in.

Sorry, just read your post again. Have you already had it done?? It does seem a fairly common fault along with the alternator pulley clutch failure on VAG engines.
