Considering chucking a panel filter into my 2.0 TDi (170hp B8.5 Quattro) and getting a remap.

Whats the options for filters as a quick ebay search brings up B8 stuff, im not totally sure if there the same as a B8.5 filter. I guess they will be but can anyone confirm?

Edit: whilst im at it lol a supplier for a decent set of 25 or 30mm springs & aftermarket anti roll bars aswell. All I can find is B8 Quattro stuff no B8.5

A new OE filter is what you need. Induction kits or “performance” air filters aren’t any benefit on a diesel.

I’ve seen where some of these new aftermarket filters actually have less air flow than a new OE one.

Well ive owned many diesels and never had any problems putting aftermarket panel filters into any if them.

Id be suprised if theres any foam filter on the market that has less flow then a paper element filter...

I have a b8 170 2.0 Tdi that I bought a pipercross foam panel filter for last year, didn’t want a proper induction kit as they sound stupid on diesels.
This was only £30 off eBay too and I can clean and reuse it for a few years so money saved and it should give abit better airflow but hardly any noticeable gains, if it helps with air flow in any sort of way I’m happy though

I put a RamAir panel filter on my 3.0TDI

Much better quality than the paper filter i replaced.

The filter on the 3.0tdi is already a cone/cylinder shape as opposed to a flat filter

Pipercross on my 175bhp and no difference maybe just a touch more noise from turbo.

Apparently the foam ones can lead to dirt getting into turbo compressor and also oily maf sensors.

Quality is filtration or performance ?

Quality in terms of made of aluminium and foam instead of plastic and paper :)

Also, the RamAir filter seems to be a bit larger and have more surface area too.

Overall I'm happy with it but I can't say there are any discernible differences feels a bit more free-reving at higher revs but it could be placebo effect

I don't think a paper filter lacks filtration surface area .
