Hi.. I have a 2004 2.0 tdi 140 bkd engine, I have problems when starting it from cold, takes a few cranks then it fires with a bit of white/grey smoke. Once warm it starts fine, been like it 6-8 months, In the last 5months it's had new dmf, 4 injectors with new seals & bolts, new injector wiring. Tandem pump, new fule metal fuel pipes that go along top of the engine, starter motor etc etc, been into a specialist, they seem to think it might be the fuel pipes in the head, does anyone know of these can be changed??or has anyone had the same problem?? Thanks Kyle

No it's never used any coolant in the 18 months I've had it, I've only ever had to put antifreeze in it when it was last serviced

Hi
I had the same thing on mine took a few cranks to fire up or primed it a couple of times then fired up when left over night and got worse if left for a week. It has been like this for 4 years.
A few weeks back the battery went flat so I replaced it with a new one and the problem has gone for good.
Starts on the button every time even when the car has been left for a week.
Check the voltage of the battery when cranking, you might have a weak battery.

I've checked the battery when the cars cold and it seems to be ok, I will swap the battery with my partners as she has the same car as well

How would that have anything to do with the smoke?
